Larnaca, Cyprus · Europe
Cyprus’s main gateway: a walkable 2009 Hermes terminal with solid Kapnos/Limassol coaches, classic EU liquids rules, and a 24/7 Skala Lounge upstairs from Duty Free — easy to use, busy in summer, still non-Schengen.
Editorial 0–10 from comfort, navigation, food, transport, and disruption resilience — not a Google rating.

Most important tips
A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.
Peak-summer queues beat walking distance — pad for passport control and bag drop, not the terminal length.
The 2009 terminal is easy to walk, but UK/German/Israeli/Polish leisure banks plus Wizz / Aegean / Cyprus Airways / TUS waves stack check-in, security, and non-Schengen passport control together. Online check-in and cabin-bag-only travel remove the worst landside queue. For Jul–Aug morning departures, treat 2.5–3 hours as normal; shoulder season 2 hours usually clears.
Single 2009 terminal; lounge access is the Chanel-adjacent Duty Free lift to floor 3 after security.
Landside: departures check-in hall, arrivals reclaim, car hire, bus kerbs. Airside: security into the commercial core (Duty Free, F&B), then gates; Skala Lounge is reached after security via the Duty Free hall lift next to Chanel up to level 3. Construction for Phase 2 may shift temporary cordons — follow live Hermes signage, not last year’s YouTube walkthrough.
Adequate airside cafés and Duty Free; eat in Larnaca if the layover is long and you clear arrivals.
LCA’s cafés, fast-casual counters, and Duty Free cover coffee, bakery, and a hot plate, especially after security. Fine for a banked departure; poor as a multi-hour food destination compared with Finikoudes / Larnaca town. If you have 4+ hours and no lounge access, the Kapnos or city-bus hop into Larnaca still beats repeating the same airside sandwich.
Expansion works and peak leisure banks are the main friction; verify live FIDS on busy Saturdays.
Hermes Phase 2 (new annex, extra reclaim belts, new passport/security zones, more stands) runs on a multi-year clock from 2025. Pair that with a single 04/22 runway and peak leisure demand, and the usual disruption modes are summer thunderstorms, late charter waves, and temporary passenger reroutes inside the terminal — not exotic ATC complexity. Check Hermes FIDS and your airline app before leaving the hotel.
LCA’s current primary passenger lounge after the Aspire/Aphrodite era — modern airside room upstairs from Duty Free with complimentary soft and standard alcoholic drinks, light food, Wi-Fi, power at seats, family zone, and a smoking area. A la carte items may cost extra on PP lists. No showers on published Priority Pass amenity lists. Worth it with network access; paid walk-up is reasonable for a long gap, less so for a 45-minute connection.
