Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Summer PFO is passport + bus-gate time, not walking time

Peak-summer queues and remote stands beat terminal length — pad for passport control and apron buses.

The 2008 terminal is easy to walk, but UK/German/Polish leisure banks plus Ryanair / Jet2 / easyJet / TUI waves stack check-in, security, and non-Schengen passport control together — and many stands still use apron buses. Online check-in and cabin-bag-only travel remove the worst landside queue. For Jul–Aug morning departures, treat 2.5–3 hours as normal; shoulder season 2 hours usually clears.

Layout

One terminal — Premium Lounge is opposite Gate 7 after security

Single 2008 terminal; lounge is airside opposite Gate 7, not a separate building.

Landside: check-in hall, arrivals reclaim, car hire, bus kerbs. Airside: security into the commercial core (Duty Free, F&B), then gate clusters; Premium Lounge sits in departures directly opposite Gate 7. Phase 2 construction may shift temporary cordons — follow live Hermes signage, not last year’s YouTube walkthrough.

Food

Fuel in the commercial core — eat in Kato Paphos on long layovers

Adequate airside cafés and Duty Free; take bus 612 to the harbour if the layover is long.

PFO’s cafés, fast-casual counters, and Duty Free cover coffee, bakery, and a hot plate, especially after security. Fine for a banked departure; poor as a multi-hour food destination compared with Kato Paphos Harbour. If you have 4+ hours and no lounge access, OSYPA bus 612 into town still beats repeating the same airside sandwich.

Status

Phase 2 build + bus gates — watch summer weather and works

Expansion works, remote stands, and peak leisure banks are the main friction; verify live FIDS on busy Saturdays.

Hermes Phase 2 (~30% terminal capacity, southern taxiway extension) runs on a ~27-month clock from 2025. Pair that with a single 11/29 runway, remote stands, and peak leisure demand, and the usual friction modes are summer heat, apron-bus delays, and temporary passenger reroutes inside the terminal — not exotic ATC complexity. Check Hermes FIDS and your airline app before leaving the hotel.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

West-coast resort arrivals (Paphos, Coral Bay, Polis)
Ryanair / Jet2 / easyJet / TUI leisure flyers who pre-check-in online
Priority Pass holders using Premium Lounge opposite Gate 7
Budget ground links via OSYPA 612 or Limassol Airport Express (€9)

Watch out for

Non-Schengen passport control stacked with security in peak banks
Remote-stand apron buses on many departures
July–August Saturday check-in and security queues
Phase 2 construction cordons and sparse Limassol Express timetables

Paphos International Airport (IATA PFO / ICAO LCPH) is western Cyprus’s leisure gateway, about 15 km southeast of Paphos town in Timi / Acheleia. Operator: Hermes Airports Ltd (same concession as Larnaca / LCA). Official site: hermesairports.com. Do not confuse with LCA on the east coast — PFO feeds Paphos, Coral Bay, and west-coast resorts while LCA handles Nicosia and the east.
Hermes passenger-traffic table: 3,837,155 passengers in 2025 (+5.5% vs 3,633,990 in 2024). Combined LCA+PFO hit a record 13,751,247. Jan–Aug 2026 already 2,673,969 at PFO / 8,828,837 combined. Peak demand is April–October UK/German/Polish leisure waves; winter is quieter but no longer empty.
Single passenger terminal (new building opened November 2008) with remote stands and bus-boarding gates — no jet bridges on the published airfield layout. Primary runway 11/29 about 2,700 × 45 m asphalt; elevation ~12 m / 41 ft. Hermes Phase 2 (works from late March 2025; ~€170M for LCA+PFO combined; ~27 months at PFO) lifts PFO design capacity to 5 million passengers with ~30% terminal expansion plus a southern parallel taxiway extension — expect temporary cordons.
Cyprus is in the EU and eurozone but not in Schengen: expect passport / identity checks on departure and arrival for essentially all commercial flights. No passenger rail anywhere on the island — ground options are OSYPA city buses (612/613), Limassol Airport Express, Kapnos inter-airport coaches, taxis, and rental cars (drive on the left).
Security follows classic EU cabin-liquids rules (containers ≤100 ml in one clear ≤1 L bag) unless a live Hermes notice says otherwise. Free Wi-Fi is widely advertised. Show-up guidance: build more buffer on July–August Saturday banks than the compact single-terminal plan suggests.
Main passenger lounge: Premium Lounge (airside, opposite Gate 7) — live Priority Pass 05:00–00:00 daily; Amex Platinum Lounge Finder lists it. Hermes opens it ~2 hours before each scheduled flight. Paid walk-up at the airport when space allows (confirm live desk price). DragonPass and LoungeKey are not confirmed. Children under 2 free on live PP.
