Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Gulf banks + a tabletop strip — build real buffers

Evening Gulf stacks and CISF / CIQ are the clock; FTI-TTP helps only enrolled Indian / OCI passengers.

Domestic ~2 hours early is the sane CCJ default; international CIQ days need more when Air India Express / IndiGo / Gulf departures stack. FTI-TTP e-gates (PIB 11 Sep 2025) are for pre-enrolled Indian nationals and OCI cardholders only — register at ftittp.mha.gov.in; DigiYatra is a different product and does not open those gates. Bird Lounge absorbs a hold only after you have cleared into international airside with a live Priority Pass entitlement. ATS hourly capacity is 8 mixed movements; weather on the tabletop 10/28 strip still stacks delays.

Terminal

One Karipur campus — CCJ ≠ COK ≠ CNN ≠ TRV

Single AAI field; live Priority Pass = Bird Lounge on international airside only.

Screenshot CCJ ≠ COK ≠ CNN ≠ TRV before the car leaves Kozhikode / Malappuram / Wayanad / Thrissur. All scheduled passengers use the AAI Karipur campus (compact domestic + international flows on one field). Live Priority Pass = Bird Lounge (Terminal 2, Level 1 near Gate 1, international SHA). There is no live LoungeKey or DragonPass pin. Do not invent a second passenger airport from RESA earthworks photos.

Food

Landside sealed water is Plan A — lounge pours need entitlement

Named café counters exist; buy sealed water landside. Bird Lounge drinks are not a public fountain.

AAI names Expresso, Club Sulaimani, The Hangar Bar, Curry Tree, Pop n Go and Milma across cityside, check-in and SHAs — compact, not a mall. Buy sealed water landside before CISF; airside café markup is the usual tax and shelf prices are unpublished. Bird Lounge pours (soft drinks listed; alcohol extra on PP) are for Priority Pass / listed card entitlements on international airside only, 00:00–23:59, max 3 hours. AAI Conveniences does not list a public drinking fountain.

Access

Prepaid taxi Plan A — 28 km from Calicut Railway Station, no terminal metro

eAIP distance is 28 km from Calicut Railway Station; parking rates are published.

Use official prepaid taxi counters in arrivals or a signed Ola / Uber pin. eAIP places the ARP 28 km / 127° from Calicut Railway Station — often 45–75 minutes into city / Beach Road / University / Malappuram corridors. eAIP lists taxis and state-transport buses from the aerodrome; there is no passenger rail or metro platform inside the terminal. Private four-wheeler parking (white plate, ≤7 seats): ₹40 / 30 min, ₹65 / 30–120 min, ₹195 / 24 h on the live Park & Fly page.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Gulf / West Asia corridor trips into Kozhikode and the Malabar hinterland
Air India Express base banks when the ticket matches tonight’s FIDS
Priority Pass holders clearing into international airside for Bird Lounge
Enrolled Indian / OCI travellers using FTI-TTP e-gates

Watch out for

Tabletop runway 10/28 with 2,700 m declared distances — trust today’s A321-class metal
No domestic Priority Pass / LoungeKey / DragonPass soft lounge
No terminal metro / rail — eAIP is 28 km from Calicut Railway Station
Do not confuse CCJ with COK / CNN / TRV, and do not swap AAI international / domestic annexes

Calicut International Airport (IATA CCJ / ICAO VOCL), locally Karipur / Karippur Airport, is the Airports Authority of India civil gateway for Kozhikode and the Malabar hinterland. The campus sits at Karipur in Malappuram district. Official passenger page: https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/calicut. Airport Director on the live AAI contact page: Mukesh Yadav (apd_calicut@aai.aero; 0483-2719401 / 0483-2719491). Screenshot CCJ (VOCL) ≠ COK (Kochi) ≠ CNN (Kannur) ≠ TRV (Thiruvananthapuram) — the wrong Kerala IATA is a multi-hour road day, not an airside hop.
eAIP India VOCL (edition v2-06-2026): ARP 11°08′16″N 075°57′02″E (stored 11.13778 / 75.95056); elevation 343 ft EGM-08; 127° / 28 km from Calicut Railway Station. Single runway 10/28 — 2,860 × 45 m asphalt (PCN 72/F/A/W/T). Declared TORA/TODA/ASDA/LDA are 2,700 m on both ends (the remaining length is for taxi / 180° turn). ILS CAT I both ways: RWY 28 LOC ICAC 109.500 MHz; RWY 10 LOC ICLB 110.700 MHz; DVOR CLC 116.500 MHz. Critical aircraft A321. ATS hourly capacity 8 mixed / 6 arrivals / 6 departures. Non-scheduled operators need 24-hour clearance (slots.calicut@aai.aero) because of an acute shortage of stands. RFFS CAT 8 within ATS hours.
Traffic (AAI Mar2k26 Annex II–IV, FY 2025–26 / 1 Apr 2025–31 Mar 2026): 3,855,618 passengers (+4.3% vs 3,695,944), of which 2,920,143 international (−1.5%) and 935,475 domestic (+28.1%); 25,699 aircraft movements (−2.6%); 17,791.3 t cargo (−16.3%). Annex III-A is international; Annex III-B is domestic — do not swap them. Hyderabad GHIAL handled 5,463,102 international passengers the same year; encyclopedia lines that Calicut is “tied with Hyderabad” on international traffic are false. March 2026 international passengers were −47.4% vs March 2025.
eAIP publishes RESA 240 m × 90 m (initial 150 m paved) at both ends. Civil RESA expansion toward that DGCA 240 m standard was still listed as under implementation in September 2026 reporting (Gawar Construction; ILS install/calibration after earthworks). Wide-body scheduled operations have been restricted since the 7 Aug 2020 Air India Express IX 1344 overrun; the published critical aircraft remains A321. Trust the ticket / FIDS for today’s metal — do not assume a Haj or Gulf brochure wide-body is boarding.
Lounges (22 Oct 2026): live Priority Pass India directory includes Kozhikode Calicut International. Bird Lounge (PP pin ccj1-bird-lounge) — Terminal 2, airside international departures, Level 1 near Gate 1 inside the Security Hold Area; 00:00–23:59 daily; max stay 3 hours; children under 5 free; digital card accepted; alcohol extra on PP. AAI Conveniences lists a Business Lounge in the international SHA — that is this room, not a second directory entry. Mastercard LoungeKey finder returns no CCJ airport. DragonPass /explore/airport/CCJ is a thin SPA with no lounge body — do not tag LoungeKey or DragonPass. Live PP soft directory = Bird Lounge only.
Passenger product (live AAI Conveniences / Park & Fly / Rest-Room / contact, 22 Oct 2026): domestic self-check kiosks; MIHY at check-in, arrivals and cityside; child-care rooms at check-in, arrivals and SHAs; smoking rooms in domestic and international SHAs; free Wi-Fi throughout plus an arrivals Wi-Fi kiosk for passengers without an Indian SIM; ATM city-side departures near Pillar 16; Ebix Cash FX at check-in, pre-security and international arrivals; laptop workstation and massage chair in international SHA; paid meet-and-greet ₹400 check-in / ₹1,500 to the gate; transit rest room ₹1,000 / 24 h plus GST; baggage wrap ₹300 at city-side Pillar 22 and international check-in. F&B named on the passenger-info node: Expresso, Club Sulaimani, The Hangar Bar, Curry Tree, Pop n Go, Milma (cityside, check-in and SHAs). FTI-TTP e-gates for enrolled Indian nationals and OCI cardholders were inaugurated 11 Sep 2025 (PIB). Prepaid taxi is Plan A; published private four-wheeler parking is ₹40 / first 30 min, ₹65 / 30–120 min, ₹195 / 24 h.
