St. John's, Canada · North America
One compact NAS terminal with a real Maple Leaf Lounge, posted taxi flats, and an ASQ under-2-million trophy — traded against Atlantic wind and fog, a $42 AIF, no U.S. preclearance, and no Priority Pass room.
An editorial 0–10 score. The overall is exactly the weighted sum of six traveler categories — not a Google rating and not a poll.

Most important tips
A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.
Everyone uses the single CATSA PBS. There is no 16:30 CBP trap here because there is no preclearance.
Official airport pages do not print CATSA clock hours. CATSA itself recommends two hours for domestic and three hours for U.S. and international. Live PBS waits post on catsa-acsta.gc.ca (0–5 min in this research window). NEXUS uses Verified Traveller when the checkpoint is open.
One two-level passenger hall. Ticketing and arrivals on the main floor; CATSA and the holdroom on level 2; Quiet Room on 3.
Play areas sit outside the level-1 food court and in the departures lounge by Gates 10 and 11. The Maple Leaf Lounge is upstairs from Gate 10. Wrong-level panic is the usual first-timer mistake, not a second terminal.
Airside sit-down is Yellowbelly Brewery. Landside Tim Hortons plus a 24-hour Pizza Shed vending kiosk.
Live official hours on 12 Sep 2026: Yellowbelly Mon–Fri 03:30–19:30, Sat–Sun 04:30–19:30. Level-2 Tim Hortons 03:30–19:00. O’Reilly’s Mon–Fri 11:00–17:30, closed Saturday–Sunday. The 2025 annual report opened Mamacita near Gate 6; the live hours card today does not list it.
One open passenger lounge. Air Canada / Star Alliance eligibility or a listed cobrand / Chase Sapphire Reserve. No PP room.
Hours follow the Air Canada schedule — confirm on the lounge selector. Advance paid access exists on some AC fares (cannot buy at the airport on the day). Do not invent The Club YYT, Escape, or an Aspire lounge.

St. John's International Airport and the St. John's city center
Compare prepaid private transfers to St. John's — useful overnight, with luggage, or when you want a locked-in fare before you land.
Exclusive closed stand at arrivals. Downtown hotels and B&Bs $35. Meter + $5 elsewhere.
Tip: 709-722-7777. Accessible vehicles with about one hour notice. GoBus 709-368-1620 or Wheelway 709-753-0605 with 24 hours for large mobility aids.
Arrivals plus World Parkway / Holiday Inn Express. About 35 minutes to MUN Centre. Adult cash $2.50.
Tip: Fall/winter timetable in force 5 Jan 2026. First airport departure 06:40. This is not Water Street — budget a transfer or the $35 taxi for downtown hotels.
SJIAA added ride-sharing in April 2024. Live taxi page still does not name Uber or Lyft or a door pin.
Tip: If the app offers a car, use the app’s pin. Compare the live quote to the posted $35 downtown taxi before you walk past the stand.
Short-term $2.50/30 min, $40/day. Long-term $20/day or $100/week. Gold Pass $175/month + HST, 6-month minimum. Cell lot free.
Tip: Prepay inside (Arrivals, Departures near Tim Hortons, or across from Air Canada) and exit within 30 minutes. 24 FLO Level 2 chargers — lot rate still applies.
The airport’s only passenger lounge — a real Maple Leaf room since 19 Dec 2018. Not Priority Pass, and not a walk-up Escape.

Airside Yellowbelly (from 03:30 weekdays / 04:30 weekends). Landside Pizza Shed is 24-hour vending. O’Reilly’s is weekday-only on the live card.
Sunflower lanyards at VIC / Security / airline counters. Hearing loops at check-in and the VIC. Curbside assistance 709-758-8510.
Play areas by Gates 10–11 and outside the level-1 food court (unsupervised). Quiet Room on floor 3. Service-animal relief between Gates 7 and 9.
One CATSA PBS. You clear U.S. CBP after you land in the United States.
Official pages do not print CATSA clock hours. CATSA recommends 2 hours domestic / 3 hours U.S. and international. NEXUS uses Verified Traveller when the checkpoint is open. CBSA can handle 165 passengers, or 450 if unloaded in stages.
No 16:30 CBP cutoff of the Halifax kind.
A JFK or EWR arrival still means a U.S. immigration line over there.
The only passenger lounge is Air Canada’s, upstairs from Gate 10.
Eligible on a same-day AC / Star Alliance departure. Chase Sapphire Reserve is on Air Canada’s participating list. Purchased access on some AC fares must be added 24 hours ahead — not a walk-up. Do not scan a PP QR here.
A real, locally designed Maple Leaf room since 19 Dec 2018.
No Priority Pass, LoungeKey, or DragonPass pin.
City Wide is the exclusive taxi stand. Metrobus 14 is the cheap path to campus, not Water Street.
Downtown hotels and B&Bs are a posted $35. Meter + $5 everywhere else. Route 14 is about 35 minutes to MUN Centre; adult cash $2.50. Official 2024 report added ride-sharing; the live taxi page still does not name Uber or Lyft.
One of the few Canadian fields with printed hotel taxi flats.
Route 14 is not a downtown hotel express.
Trust the live shop-and-dine card. O’Reilly’s is weekday-only. Mamacita is not on today’s hours list.
Yellowbelly Mon–Fri 03:30–19:30, Sat–Sun 04:30–19:30. Level-2 Tim Hortons 03:30–19:00. Pizza Shed on level 1 is 24-hour vending. Official pages do not map water fillers.
A real from-scratch brewpub after CATSA, plus 24-hour pizza downstairs.
Do not plan a Saturday O’Reilly’s pint from an old aggregator card.
Level 2 departures holdroom — hunt restroom banks after the single CATSA checkpoint
Empty or dump liquids before CATSA. Official SJIAA pages do not map bottle fillers. A 2020 Water at Airports note and Sleeping-in-Airports both point at Level 2 departure restrooms — dated evidence, not a live official map.
Airside, second floor, official shop-and-dine card
Official daily 03:30–19:00. Sealed bottle when you cannot find a fountain.
Airside, second floor travel-essentials shop on the official card
Official daily 04:00–20:00. Chewing gum, cosmetics, OTCs, and travel accessories — bottles when they have them.
Level 1 food court before security
Official daily 05:00–18:00. Useful for meeters. You will dump liquids at CATSA, so this is not the departing-passenger value play.
