Compact campus, serious winter-Saturday peaks — pad security and do not treat SZG like a sleepy regional field in ski season.
SZG is larger than Innsbruck but still compresses hard when UK/DE/NL ski charters bank on winter Saturdays and holiday weeks. Terminal 2 absorbs overflow check-in and ski bags, yet security and the shared airside hold remain the bottlenecks. Build more buffer than the short walk distances imply. Summer leisure peaks are milder but still watch early Eurowings / Ryanair / easyJet turns. Alpine weather and a single runway can ripple delays even when the terminal looks calm.
One campus, two buildings — learn T1 first; T2 is the winter/overflow relief valve, not a separate airport.
Terminal 1 is the year-round spine: landside check-in, security, airside gates, retail/food, Business Lounge near Gate 10. Terminal 2 opens for seasonal peaks with extra desks, gates, and ski-equipment check-in. Apron walks and bus boarding are normal in any weather. Re-check FIDS for Schengen vs non-Schengen holds after the commercial zone. Meeting point: landside arrivals after reclaim in T1.

Expect Marktrestaurant, Marktcafe, Das Wolfgang, and a short airside snack/duty-free mix rather than a food hall. The Business Lounge (~25 seats) is the only calm sit-down with complimentary food and drinks if you hold Priority Pass, eligible airline access, or pay €45. On packed ski Saturdays the lounge fills fast — a city meal via Obus 2/10 often beats fighting for airside seats if your schedule allows.
No rail at SZG — Obus 2/10 into Salzburg (from €2.50 Kernzone advance single) is the default public move; buy before you board.
Catch trolleybus 2 toward Hauptbahnhof (~23 min) or 10 toward the centre (~15 min, Mon–Sat). Official 2026 Kernzone Einzelfahrt €2.50 adult in advance / 24h-Ticket €5.20; buy at the stop machine, Salzburg Verkehr channels, or Trafik before boarding. Taxi is convenient with ski bags; centre often ~€15–25 metered depending on traffic/time. Pre-book parking for winter weekends; Kiss & Fly is free only for the first 10 minutes then €4.70 per started 10 minutes (airport tariff page from 1 Dec 2025).
