Stockholm’s historic city airport after the 2024–25 airline exodus: 25,232 passengers in 2025 (Swedavia), a single tiny terminal ~9.6 km from town, and Tvärbanan 31 at the door — useful only if your ticket actually says BMA, not as a lounge or F&B destination.

Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Treat BMA as a micro-schedule, not a hub

Thin timetable — be on site for your own flight wave; the building is not open 24/7 like a major hub.

With 25,232 passengers in 2025, most of the day can be empty. Arrive for your own check-in/security window (terminal opens only 2 h before the first departure) rather than assuming Arlanda-style all-day staffing.

Terminal

One tiny terminal — the real risk is STO airport mix-ups

Navigation inside is trivial; confusing BMA with ARN/NYO is the expensive mistake.

You cannot get lost inside Bromma. You can lose a day by going to ARN or NYO on a STO-coded ticket. Confirm BMA on the boarding pass before you ride Tvärbanan or book a taxi.

Food

Do not plan a meal around Bromma F&B

Post-collapse F&B is unreliable — eat before you arrive or bring snacks.

Older reviews name cafés that matched the BRA-era passenger volumes. After the 2024–2025 collapse, assume minimal or flight-tied catering only and eat in the city or bring food. Verify whatever is open on the day.

Status

No Priority Pass lounge to chase here

Lounge hunters belong at Arlanda; BMA has no dependable PP club today.

Priority Pass’s Sweden directory does not present a live Bromma lounge product for ordinary cardholders, and the old BRA Lounge was tied to an airline that left the airport. Status travellers should use ARN lounges when flying SAS/BRA/Finnair metal from Arlanda instead.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Travellers whose boarding pass truly says BMA (Västflyg / Brommaflyg / Skåne Aviation residual routes)
Anyone who values a 25–30 minute SL tram+metro hop over Arlanda’s longer transfer
Business aviation / GA users on the civilian Bromma campus
Stockholm visitors who already know ARN and NYO and need the third STO field documented honestly

Watch out for

STO city-code mix-ups — going to ARN or NYO by habit wastes the day
Terminal opens only 2 hours before the first departure; not a 24/7 hub
Flygbussarna Bromma service ended 24 Dec 2024 — use SL tram 31
Near-empty F&B after the traffic collapse — eat in the city
No dependable Priority Pass lounge after BRA left for Arlanda

Guide quick facts

From the editorial guide for BMA.

Updated Sep 16, 2026

Stockholm Bromma Airport (Bromma Stockholm Airport), IATA BMA / ICAO ESSB, is Stockholm’s close-in city airport in the Bromma district. Swedavia’s Swedish facts page cites about 9.6 km to Stockholm city. Operator: Swedavia. Official site: swedavia.com/bromma. Fully civilian — not a military airbase. Do not confuse with Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) or Stockholm Skavsta (NYO); city code STO covers all three.
Traffic collapsed after Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) and Finnair left for Arlanda by end-2024. Swedavia’s official December 2025 airport statistics PDF (fpl_202512) counts **25,232** passengers in calendar 2025 (−97% vs the BRA-era year). Transportstyrelsen’s national 2025 report lists 27,853 for the same airport (methodology differs from the operator table). Swedavia’s about-the-airport pages still round 2025 as ~25,000 with 3 domestic destinations that year. This is a tiny residual scheduled operation plus heavy business/general aviation — not the pre-2025 domestic hub travellers still remember.
Single compact passenger terminal. One main asphalt runway 12/30, 1,668 m × 45 m (Swedavia facts + Swedish AIP / Wikipedia). Elevation ~14 m / 47 ft. Opened 23 May 1936. Strict noise/environment rules limit which aircraft may use the field. Terminal hours follow the thin schedule: opens two hours before the first departure and closes after the last (Swedavia).
Public transport default is SL tram (Tvärbanan) line 31 to stop Bromma flygplats immediately outside the terminal (opened 2021). Change at Alvik to the green Tunnelbana toward T-Centralen — commonly ~25–30 minutes door-to-door to the city with a standard SL ticket (no separate airport surcharge). Vy Flygbussarna withdrew the Bromma city coach on 24 December 2024 after traffic fell away — ignore outdated guides that still sell that bus.
Scheduled airlines reported in 2025–2026 public sources: Västflyg (Trollhättan–Vänersborg and Växjö), Brommaflyg (Visby), and Skåne Aviation (Malmö). Swedavia’s 2025 facts page still summarised “3 domestic” destinations for that calendar year; live FIDS / airline sites win over any static list. No Priority Pass lounge is currently published for BMA; the former BRA Lounge should not be assumed open after BRA’s exit.
Parking is pay-on-site only (Swedavia parking FAQ): demand dropped, so pre-booking was withdrawn. P2 Express is card-in / same-card-out; the short-stay curb in front of the terminal is paid via ePark / Parkster / Mobill / EasyPark. Blue-badge / reduced-mobility bays sit next to the terminal. Swedavia Bromma parking FAQ publishes info@brommaairport.se and switchboard +46 (0)10-109 40 00.

Ride SL, not a phantom airport bus. Tvärbanan line 31 stops at Bromma flygplats outside the terminal. Change at Alvik to the green metro toward the centre (~25–30 minutes typical with transfer). Flygbussarna ended Bromma service on 24 December 2024.
