Watch Dhaka's winter fog

Winter fog in Dhaka can delay Sylhet flights.

Biman's London and Manchester flights start in Dhaka, and dense winter fog at Dhaka regularly delays or diverts flights, some of them to Sylhet. Between December and February, check your flight status before you leave for the airport.

Terminal

One small airport, domestic and international sides

Small and easy to navigate.

Osmani has one main terminal with separate domestic and international sides. The currency exchange booth is in the international area. Free trolleys are available on both floors. A new international terminal is under construction and is due in December 2027.

Food

Eat before you fly

Food options not verified; eat in town.

HonestAirport couldn't verify any cafés, restaurants or opening hours at Osmani. Plan to eat in Sylhet before you head to the airport, especially before the 11-hour flights to the UK.

Status

The only lounges are on the domestic side

Priority Pass works only on domestic flights.

The MTB Air Lounge in domestic departures takes Priority Pass from 11:00 to 21:00. The UCB Imperial Lounge, also on the domestic side, is for UCB credit cardholders, but Mastercard lists it as closed until further notice. HonestAirport found no lounge for international passengers, and status cards don't get you in anywhere.

Osmani International Airport (IATA ZYL, ICAO VGSY) serves Sylhet in north-eastern Bangladesh and is run by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). CAAB puts it about 15 km north-east of the city. Local time is Asia/Dhaka (UTC+6).
It is Bangladesh's third-largest international airport. It handled 634,031 passengers in 2022. Monthly traffic reached a record 94,378 in October 2025 and was 64,410 in May 2026 (Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics).
Biman Bangladesh Airlines flies to London Heathrow four times a week and to Manchester twice a week. Both flights start in Dhaka and stop in Sylhet. Biman also flies weekly to Jeddah and Dubai.
SalamAir started flying Sylhet–Muscat on 1 September 2026, the first foreign airline with scheduled flights to Sylhet. It now flies five times a week.
Domestic: Biman and US-Bangla fly to Dhaka, about 92 flights a week in the current schedule, taking 50 to 55 minutes.
A new international terminal is being built, raising capacity from 0.6 million to 2 million passengers a year. Completion is planned for December 2027.

Osmani has one main terminal with domestic and international sides, plus a separate cargo terminal.
International flights: Biman to London Heathrow (BG201, four times a week) and Manchester (BG207, twice a week), Jeddah (BG235, Mondays) and Dubai (BG247, Fridays), and SalamAir to Muscat (OV422, five times a week).
Domestic flights: Biman and US-Bangla to Dhaka, about 92 flights a week.
No airline at Osmani belongs to a global alliance.
Wi-Fi is free throughout the airport, according to CAAB. HonestAirport didn't verify speed or limits.
Also available: a currency exchange booth in the international terminal building, free trolleys on both floors, wheelchairs and free first aid.
Construction: a new international terminal, cargo complex and control tower are being built. CAAB plans to finish by December 2027.
