International travellers should still plan full immigration / customs buffers; FTI-TTP e-gates help only if you already enrolled at ftittp.mha.gov.in. Domestic ~2 hours early / international ~3 hours early remain the sane defaults.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport (IATA TRZ / ICAO VOTR; also styled Tiruchi / Trichy Airport) is Tamil Nadu’s AAI-run Cauvery-delta gateway on NH-336 about 5 km south of the city centre. Owner is the Ministry of Civil Aviation; operator is the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Official AAI passenger page: https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/tiruchirapalli. Screenshot TRZ (VOTR) ≠ MAA (Chennai) ≠ CJB (Coimbatore) ≠ IXM (Madurai) — the wrong Tamil Nadu IATA is a multi-hour road day, not an airside hop. This is a pure AAI public civil field (historic WWII RAF use is history, not today’s passenger product) — not a passenger enclave on an active naval or air-force base.
One new integrated passenger terminal (~75,000 m²; ~₹1,112 crore; inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 January 2024; civil ops from 11 June 2024) handles all scheduled domestic and international flows. Design capacity is about 4.45–4.5 million passengers a year / ~3,480 peak-hour passengers on public AAI / ToI summaries, with 11 boarding gates / five aerobridges, 26 domestic + 34 international check-in counters, and landside parking for ~1,250 cars plus bus / EV charging bays. The 2009 terminal was vacated for passenger check-in when the new hall opened; the original pre-2009 shell is cargo, not today’s boarding. Treat runway-extension CGI and the still-building ATC tower as works-in-progress — not a second passenger campus.
Traffic (AAI annexes for FY 2025–26 / 1 Apr 2025–31 Mar 2026, as compiled on Wikipedia from archived Mar2k26 Annex II–IV PDFs and mirrored in ToI / Hindu wraps): 2,221,024 passengers (+13.5%), 18,858 aircraft movements (+8.4%), 7,186.7 t cargo (+11%). Airport-director Independence Day remarks (ToI, 15 Aug 2026) split the same year as ~13.9 lakh international + ~8.2 lakh domestic — international still outweighs domestic, which is unusual among Indian Tier-2 fields. Prefer AAI annex PDFs when auditing.
Airfield (AAI / Airport Technology / SkyVector-style summaries for VOTR): single primary runway 09/27 — about 2,427 m × 45 m asphalt (Wikipedia’s summary table sometimes rounds to 2,480 m; operational length cited in expansion briefs and SkyVector is ~2,423–2,427 m / ~7,949 ft with a displaced threshold on 09); aerodrome elevation about 88 m / 288 ft; CAT I ILS on public summaries; night ops. Closed secondary strip 15/33 is taxiway / alternate pavement, not a second passenger runway. AAI has proposed extending 09/27 toward ~3,800 m (~₹2.3 billion) with land acquisition underway through 2025–26 — still not today’s length. DigiYatra is not a confirmed live product here: Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko was still petitioning for DigiYatra in October 2025, and mid-2026 MoCA answers cite ~38–39 live DigiYatra airports without treating Trichy as commissioned — do not invent biometric e-gates from travel-blog “100+ airport” lists.

Live PP soft directory = these two O'Vetra pins only — do not invent Plaza Premium / Travel Club / Primus / Airr soft pins from aggregator mirrors. Domestic vs international rooms are not interchangeable after you clear the wrong SHA.
Ground: prepaid / official airport taxi counters in arrivals and signed Ola / Uber pickup remain Plan A for the ~5 km NH-336 hop into Cantonment / Central Bus Stand / Rockfort / Srirangam (~15–30 minutes in normal traffic; confirm the board / app quote). TNSTC city / deluxe buses toward Central Bus Stand and major rail heads are the daylight budget option when the live stand board shows an airport-linked route. Tiruchirappalli Junction / Golden Rock / Srirangam stations are separate road transfers — there is no passenger rail or metro platform inside the terminal.
