US departures need security + CBP time; CT helps the first lane, not the second.

Westbound US flights need Irish outbound security plus CBP preclearance before the US gate hold. Peak morning departure banks (Aer Lingus / United / Delta) are when both queues bite. Shannon’s security page/Group copy says CT screening lets you leave ≤100 ml liquids/gels and electronics in the bag — still arrive earlier than a pure Ryanair short-haul mindset. Eastbound/Europe-only trips are simpler: one security lane and a compact airside.

Compact single building, but US preclearance is a one-way door — plan lounge and shopping before you enter CBP.

Check-in and bag drop are landside in the single hall; after Irish security you enter the shared airside retail/F&B spine toward the gates. US-bound passengers later leave that spine for CBP and a separate precleared hold (near the higher gate numbers / Gate 7–8 corridor on lounge maps). Once you preclear, you cannot casually pop back to the non-US shops. Europe/UK gates stay on the non-precleared side.

Fuel up or visit Ború before US preclearance; post-CBP choice is thin.

Airside cafés, JJ Ruddles, Zest, Sheridan Bar, Harry’s Gate 8, duty-free and WHSmith cover the basics (names from the airport’s shop-and-dine directory). It is a regional food offer, not DUB T2. The Ború Lounge sits airside by Gate 7 and — critically — Priority Pass and the airport’s own booking page both say US-bound guests should use it before CBP. After preclearance, food options shrink to whatever is inside the US hold.

2026 schedule is the biggest in years; single-runway weather and CBP peaks are the real disruption modes.

Summer 2026 is a growth year: Ryanair’s fourth based aircraft and new Madrid/Rome/Warsaw/Poznań routes raise short-haul peaks, while May–Sep US banks stack Aer Lingus, United and Delta. Watch live security and CBP wait boards on the day. Atlantic weather and a single runway mean fog/storm days still stop everything — build connection buffer if you must reach Dublin by surface the same day.
