From Best Airport Tricks & Hacks

Buy the airport bus ticket before boarding at the Arrivals booth or OSETH machines by Exit 4 — do not assume a standard city ThessTicket covers 1X/1N
For metro, prefer 2X → Nea Elvetia or 3X → Mikra rather than hoping for a future station under the terminal
Empty your bottle at security, then refill airside — cheaper than landside café water
If you hold Priority Pass, the live SKG page lists both Skyserv and The Lounge Thessaloniki (T2, 06:00–22:00). DragonPass names The Lounge and Prima Vista — not Skyserv
AEGEAN passengers with lounge access can board from the gate inside the AEGEAN lounge — stay put until the call
CITYPARK: first 20 minutes free across public lots; use P4 only for short meet-and-greet, P3/P6/P7/P8 for multi-day

01

TransportTraveler Tips & Hacks

Ticket the airport bus before you board

Use the Arrivals booth or OSETH machines at Exit 4 — do not assume a standard city ticket covers 1X/1N.

Official airport lines are 1X/1N, 79, 2X, and 3X. OASTH’s tourism page emphasises 01X/01N and 79; 2X/3X are the published metro feeders. Validate as instructed and allow 30–50 minutes to the centre depending on traffic.

Pro

Cheapest official path into town or onto metro Line 1.

Watch-out

Luggage-heavy night arrivals may still prefer the taxi rank between T1/T2.

02

LoungeTraveler Tips & Hacks

Match lounge to your access stack

AEGEAN for Miles+Bonus / Business; Priority Pass holders have two live T2 rooms (The Lounge and Skyserv).

AEGEAN’s ground-floor lounge includes a boarding gate inside the room and is not Priority Pass. Live Priority Pass lists The Lounge Thessaloniki and Skyserv (both T2 06:00–22:00). DragonPass names The Lounge and Prima Vista, not Skyserv. Amex Platinum lists The Lounge and Skyserv.

Pro

Genuine choice of four airside rooms, rare for a Greek regional.

Watch-out

Walk-up prices and PP capacity rules change — check the desk/app same day.

03

SecurityTraveler Tips & Hacks

Pack classic 100 ml LAG bags

HCAA rules on the airport security page still require ≤100 ml containers in one ≤1 L clear bag.

Free bags are offered at screening. Empty bottles may pass and be refilled airside. Duty-free STEB liquids need an intact seal and visible receipt if you clear security again.

Pro

Predictable rules — no guessing a CT waiver that SKG does not advertise.

Watch-out

Non-Schengen EES border checks can dominate total dwell time in peak season.

04

FoodTraveler Tips & Hacks

Eat on the flight bank

Named cafés and kitchens track the programme — winter early banks can be thin.

Eatgreek Kouzina and the Schengen café cluster are the everyday anchors; non-Schengen has Holy Burger and Il Maestro. Landside Fabrica / Flocafe cover meeters and early check-in.

Pro

Clear Greek-plate and café options when banks are running.

Watch-out

Not a 24-hour food-court airport after the last wave.

05

NavigationTraveler Tips & Hacks

Re-check Schengen vs non-Schengen after security

T1/T2 are linked, but lounge and F&B access still follow the airside split.

Follow gate screens before settling into a café or climbing to 2nd-floor lounges. Keep boarding passes handy for retail transitions and lounge doors.

Pro

Compact campus once you are airside.

Watch-out

Wrong side = wasted walk during a tight boarding call.
