Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

One NITB — still leave slack for peaks and IAF airfield rules

Short NITB walks; peak IndiGo banks and the single 2,540 m runway still bite.

Domestic DigiYatra users can move faster at entry, but evening Delhi / Bengaluru banks and monsoon weather on one civil runway still chew buffers. Domestic ~2 hours early is the sane default; international wants a full ~3 hours for check-in, immigration, and the limited evening lounge window. Do not plan ultra-thin self-connects through PNQ.

Terminal

NITB only since 5 March 2025 — discard old dual-hall maps

All passenger banks moved into one integrated building; follow FIDS, not 2023 maps.

Domestic and international share the New Integrated Terminal Building (~52,000 m², 10 aerobridges, 34 check-in counters, 25 kiosks, 5 carousels). Same-day self-connects that change domestic↔international still mean landside transfer, re-screening, and immigration — there is no sterile walk. Screenshot PNQ ≠ BOM and ≠ Purandar (not open).

Food

Elysian if entitled — otherwise landside sealed water before security

Three live PP / LoungeKey / DragonPass Elysian rooms; landside bottles beat airside markup.

Use the live directory: two domestic 24h rooms plus one international evening/overnight room. Domestic GF alcohol, à la carte and massage chairs are extra on Priority Pass. Without entitlement, buy sealed water landside before security. NITB F&B expanded in 2025 but is still a mid-size AAI offer, not BOM T2.

Access

Prepaid taxi / app cab Plan A — metro is a feeder chase, not a station

No terminal rail; Ramwadi metro needs a road leg. Parking is AeroMall MLCP.

Use AAI-listed Sainath prepaid taxi counters or Ola/Uber from the signed pickup zones. Pune Metro does not serve the building. AAI still lists PMPML; treat city buses as a budget experiment with light bags, not a sole late-night plan. Confirm live AeroMall parking at the barrier — do not trust a blog rupee table.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Domestic business and leisure banks across Maharashtra with DigiYatra enrolled
Priority Pass / LoungeKey / DragonPass holders on domestic departures (two 24h Elysian rooms)
Evening/overnight international departures that clear immigration before Elysian opens
Travelers who want prepaid taxi / Ola-Uber rather than a metro-at-terminal story

Watch out for

Civil ops share Lohegaon Air Force Station — military priority can reshape schedules
No metro in the terminal; Ramwadi is a road feeder
International Elysian is evening/overnight only — daytime intl may find it closed, and PP/DragonPass clocks differ
Single 2,540 m runway + monsoon cells amplify delay risk versus dual-runway metros

Guide quick facts

From the editorial guide for PNQ.

Updated Oct 9, 2026

Pune International Airport (IATA PNQ / ICAO VAPO) is an AAI civil enclave on the west side of Lohegaon / Lohagaon Air Force Station. Owner is the Indian Air Force; passenger terminals and the civil apron are AAI-operated. AIP name is VAPO — PUNE [INDIAN AIR FORCE]. This guide covers the civilian passenger side only.
One New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) for domestic and international. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 10 March 2024; first passenger flights (Air India AI-858 Delhi, Air India Express I5 320 Bhubaneswar) left on 14 July 2024; AAI Pune shifted remaining old-terminal banks into the NITB from 02:00 on 5 March 2025. Follow NITB / New Terminal signs and live FIDS — not pre-2024 dual-hall maps. Purandar / Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje greenfield is still land-acquisition only, not open.
Traffic (AAI Traffic News March 2026 annexes): FY 2025–26 11,005,988 passengers (+5.2% vs 10,457,694), 71,523 aircraft movements (+3.9% vs 68,830), 54,711.9 t cargo (+29.4% vs 42,293.2 t). AAI Pune calendar-2025 wrap-up (Dec 2025 marked provisional): 10,864,639 passengers (10,525,869 domestic / 338,770 international) and 70,992 movements. Prefer the AAI FY annexes for year-on-year audits; 9–10 MPPA is NITB design capacity, not last year’s headcount.
Airfield (India eAIP VAPO, data as provided by IAF): ARP 183457N 0735513E, 4 NM northeast of Pune Railway Station, elevation 1,943 ft, joint-user 4D aerodrome. Civil runway 10/28 is 2,540 × 46 m (TORA/LDA 2,540 m; TODA/ASDA 2,807 m on 10 and 2,790 m on 28). Pavement PCN 63/R/C/X/T concrete and 67/F/B/X/T asphalt. ATS, customs and immigration publish H24. Civil ATC sits with the IAF — expect schedule friction a pure civil field does not have.
Lounges (live 9 Oct 2026): three Elysian rooms in the NITB. (1) Ground Floor domestic near Gate 5A — Priority Pass pnq3 + LoungeKey PNQ3 + DragonPass N13134, 00:00–23:59, max 2h; PP ~3.3; alcohol / à la carte / massage chairs extra on PP. (2) First Floor domestic opposite Gate 2 — PP pnq4 + LoungeKey PNQ4 + DragonPass N13132, 00:00–23:59, max 2h; PP ~3.8. (3) International after immigration near Gate 1A — PP pnq5 + LoungeKey PNQ5 + DragonPass N13255; PP/LoungeKey weekday split 18:00–03:00 (Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun) and 18:00–09:00 (Tue/Thu/Sat); DragonPass prints 18:00–09:00 every day. Ignore stale Earth Lounge / old-terminal pins.
Ground: no rail in the terminal. AAI lists Sainath Prepaid Taxi Sanghatana, Ola, Uber, and PMPML; parking is at AeroMall MLCP. Pune Metro’s nearest useful stop (Ramwadi / Aqua Line) is a road leg away — not an on-airport product. DigiYatra for domestic biometric entry at the NITB has been live since 8 February 2025. Screenshot PNQ (VAPO) ≠ BOM ≠ GOX Mopa / GOI Dabolim.
