A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Two hours is the mainland minimum — USDA is not optional

Southwest itself wants 120 minutes for both mainland and interisland; the USDA bag check sits in front of the ticket counters before TSA even starts.

Official TSA hours are 05:00–23:30. A 2022 TSA/HDOT briefing still names 09:00–14:00 and 18:00–21:00 as the crush windows. Tuesday/Wednesday are usually quieter.

Layout

South is overseas; north is mostly neighbor-island — the commuter hall is a different building

Odd-numbered gates have jetbridges. Even-numbered gates are stairs to the ramp and are rarely used. Mokulele is not in this hall.

Wikipedia’s working gate list (confirm on FIDS): interisland 9/11/13/15/17/19/21; overseas 1/5/7/23/27/29/33/35/39. Do not walk to Kapalua (JHM) or Hana (HNM) — those are other airports.

Food

Eat landside at Sammy’s or airside at Stinger Ray’s Gate 23

Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill (central hall, 10:00–21:30) is the sit-down plate; Stinger Ray’s is the only full kitchen past TSA on the north holdroom.

Official shop-and-dine still prints DFS — International Shoppes took those retail spaces on 1 Apr 2026. Burger King, CPK, and a second Starbucks are landside; Maui Snack Bar covers Gates 1–15.

Lounges

Priority Pass works here — only at the two Premier Clubs

Hawaiian’s own lounge FAQ: Priority Pass is accepted only at Kahului. North (Gate 17) 06:00–20:30; South (Gate 15) 09:30–15:30.
