Get the federal e-visa before you fly. Kurdistan’s List A visa-on-arrival is Erbil/Sulaymaniyah only — it is not a Najaf stamp. Portal: https://eservice.evisa.iq (Iraqi MoI, from 1 Mar 2025). FCDO price/validity: US$160 / 60 days.
Official city taxi tariff is unpublished. Leftover directory 15,000–25,000 IQD to the shrine is not an airport-published fare — negotiate at the arrivals kerb or open Careem / Baly. Uber is not Iraq. Bolt is not Iraq.
Do not follow leftover “airport bus / city van” copy. Airport-transfer directories say there is no public bus; Sepehran leftover 2023 mentions vans from the old city. Unverified either way — sit taxi or the app.
Priority Pass will not open a door. Collinson’s Iraq page is Baghdad International only. DragonPass /airports/NJF is 404. If you want a room, book CIP / تشريفات with the airport — walk-in IQD is unpublished.
Meeters: SIA puts taxis just outside the terminal. Pikasso maps a separate “Entrance VIP Lounge” billboard outside the hall — that is the protocol door, not the public kerb.
Mosque / prayer room, currency exchange, duty-free, luggage wrapping and first aid are listed by SIA (updated 18 Mar 2026). No lockers, no showers, no on-site hotel.
Wi-Fi exists (SIA + Sepehran). SSID and whether it needs a boarding pass are unpublished — do not print a leftover café-password.
Arbaeen: Sepehran leftover says every unit, including passenger services, runs 24 hours in the pilgrimage crush. SIA already lists the field as 24 hours year-round. Still expect queues, not empty halls.

Bring the e-visa, not a leftover VoA story

Federal Iraq stopped airport visas on arrival on 1 Mar 2025. Apply at eservice.evisa.iq at least 24 hours out.

FCDO: US$160, 60 days, passport 6 months + one blank page, ticket out of Iraq. A Kurdistan visa from Erbil is not valid in Najaf. Sepehran leftover 2023 still describes a three-step screen (police, hand search, X-ray) — there is no posted 2026 wait clock.

Pro

The live hall is one building; once you are through, you are not changing terminals.

Watch-out

Desk-close minutes are unpublished — do not invent 45 minutes, and do not count on VoA as a backup.

Collinson’s Iraq page is Baghdad only. DragonPass has no NJF page. The named room is CIP protocol.

Airport management paused diplomatic parties in the VIP hall from 14 Feb 2025 for a few days of works; main halls stayed open. Sepehran 2023 lists escort, screening, immigration and hospitality. Walk-in IQD is unpublished. SIA still could not confirm a casual business lounge.

Pro

If you already paid for protocol, it is a separate outside entrance (Pikasso Ext10), not a hunt through the public hall.

Watch-out

airssist leftover “currently unavailable” is a vendor page, not an airport closure — still do not walk up expecting a till.

Pay the kerb or open Careem

Eight to ten kilometres to the shrine. Official tariff unpublished. Uber is not Iraq.

SIA: taxis 24 hours outside the terminal. Careem names Najaf as one of four Iraq cities. Baly sells airport taxis. Leftover 15,000–25,000 IQD and leftover SIA 35-minute city ride leftover-conflict — read the app or agree the fare before the boot closes.

Pro

The hop is short when the ring road is quiet.

Watch-out

Arbaeen will erase that 15-minute leftover. There is no metro and no published city bus.

One hall, leftover T2

You are in the 2008-onwards passenger building. The 8.5 million-pax Terminal 2 is a drawing.

AM TECH / MHC T2 numbers (92,000 m² vs leftover 67,000 m², 14 bridges) are design. Wikipedia leftover 4+2 gates and Sepehran leftover six transit gates leftover-conflict — neither is a 22 Sep 2026 FIDS count. Follow Instagram/Telegram boards, not airport.online leftovers.
