Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Thin Saturday hours — and Nordkinn weather owns the clock

Tiny terminal; narrow Saturday hours, Sunday opens late, and Arctic STOL weather on ~880 m 17/35 are the real planning constraints.

MEH is a one-terminal short-field airport, so walking times inside are short. The schedule risks are (1) Avinor’s published **Saturday** windows only **05:30–07:00** and **12:30–14:30**, (2) the Sunday late-open (**17:00**), and (3) Finnmark coastal / terrain weather on an **~880 × 30 m** asphalt runway (**17/35**) with steep ground south of the strip. Overnight stays inside are not part of the published operating pattern — match arrivals to contact-page hours.

Terminal

One compact Mehamn passenger building — no second terminal myth

Single passenger terminal; no named airside shop on the current Avinor directory; walking distances are short.

Check-in, security, and the departure hold sit in a single Avinor passenger terminal about **2 km** from Mehamn centre (English Wikipedia: integrated tower / terminal capable of handling about **70** passengers per hour). There is no multi-pier campus and no airside train. Re-check screens when wind, low cloud, or snow slows the short runway. The tower is remotely controlled from Bodø (English Wikipedia / NRK reporting cited there).

Food

No named Avinor shop — eat in Mehamn or on the aircraft

Avinor’s shopping page lists no café or kiosk; treat F&B as unreliable and plan town or onboard meals.

Official Avinor Shopping and food directory for Mehamn is empty of named outlets on the research day — no Narvesen, Point, Tax Free, or café title is published. Assume you may find nothing open after security and eat in Mehamn centre or accept airline catering. Confirm on the day rather than trusting third-party “airport restaurant” blogs.

Status

No lounge — taxi or rental for the ~2 km town hop

Zero lounges; free OnePark parking; taxi or Nordkyn Nordic Safari rental is the practical default into town.

There is no Priority Pass / LoungeKey / walk-up passenger lounge on current Avinor Mehamn shopping pages. For town (~**2 km** by road from the field to Mehamn centre), plan **Taxi Mehamn** (**913 51 134**) or the Avinor-listed **Nordkyn Nordic Safari** meet-and-greet (**974 21 900**). Entur stop **Mehamn lufthavn** (**NSR:StopPlace:59255**) exists — verify live before you skip the taxi rank. Parking on the Avinor parking page is **free**; OnePark customer service is **64 81 19 80**. There is no rail link.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Mehamn / Nordkinn Peninsula trips on Widerøe Dash 8 PSO links
Travelers who want zero terminal complexity and will eat in town
Self-drive visitors using free on-site parking or Nordkyn Nordic Safari meet-and-greet

Watch out for

No passenger lounge — Priority Pass / LoungeKey will not help here
Avinor’s shopping page lists no named café or kiosk — do not plan an airside meal
~880 m short-field runway (17/35) with steep terrain south — Finnmark weather regularly delays Tromsø / Finnmark connections
Saturday terminal only 05:30–07:00 and 12:30–14:30; Sunday opens at 17:00 on Avinor’s contact page

Mehamn Airport (Norwegian Mehamn lufthavn), IATA **MEH** / ICAO **ENMH**, serves Mehamn in Gamvik Municipality on the Nordkinn Peninsula in Finnmark, Norway, and is also the practical air gateway for Kjøllefjord and Gamvik village. Visiting address on Avinor’s contact page: **Mehamn Airport, 9770 Mehamn**; postal **Avinor, Mehamn Airport, P.O. Box 150, 2061 Gardermoen**. Official English hub: avinor.no/en/airport/mehamn/. Do not confuse it with Honningsvåg Valan (**HVG**), Hammerfest (**HFT**), Berlevåg (**BVG**), Båtsfjord (**BJF**), or Lakselv Banak (**LKL** — joint civil/military; not this guide’s subject). Avinor’s on-page schema.org snippet has mis-labelled the ICAO as “ENMR” in places — the live airport identity used across AIP / OurAirports / SkyVector / English Wikipedia is **ENMH**.
Operator: **Avinor**. Official passengers-2025.xlsx (scheduled + non-scheduled roll-up including transfer/transit, column S): **17,372** passengers in **2025** (**+0.5%** vs about **17,289** implied by the published YoY change vs **2024**). Terminal passengers (column N): **12,439**. Fully civilian Avinor regional STOL field — not a closed military airbase. Opened **1 August 1974** (English / Norwegian Wikipedia history). Often described as the northernmost airport in mainland / continental Europe with scheduled traffic (Svalbard excepted).
One asphalt runway **17/35**. Declared / usable length about **880 × 30 m / 2,887 × 98 ft** (English Wikipedia citing AIP; OurAirports runway row **2,887 × 98 ft** ASP). Norwegian Wikipedia’s AIP note also records a **970 × 30 m** strip with **880 m** takeoff run available both ways — treat **~880 m** as the passenger-planning figure. Field elevation about **12 m / 39 ft** MSL (Wikipedia / OurAirports; SkyVector ~42 ft). Steep terrain south of the runway limits expansion and Dash 8 weight — Arctic short-field weather is first-class schedule risk.
No rail at the curb. Entur registers stop **Mehamn lufthavn** (**NSR:StopPlace:59255**) at the airport. Road distance into Mehamn centre is about **2 km** (English / Norwegian Wikipedia). Taxi or a pre-booked rental is the practical default when Entur shows no useful bus for your bank.
Security follows classic Avinor/Norwegian cabin liquids: containers in a clear resealable **≤1 L** bag (Avinor security page). Fast Track on that page is an **Oslo**-only product — do not expect OSL-style priority lanes at MEH. Free Wi‑Fi SSID **AIRPORT** (~**4 hours** after captive-portal accept, same Avinor Wi‑Fi product page as other Avinor fields). No passenger lounge is listed on Avinor’s Mehamn shopping page.
Official shopping directory: Avinor’s Mehamn Shopping and food page currently lists **no named café, kiosk, or Tax Free shop** (ItemList `numberOfItems: 0`). Treat airside retail as absent and confirm on the day. Hub airline on Avinor’s airline strip at research time is **Widerøe** only — Finnmark / North Norway PSO-style links; confirm live. Published terminal hours (contact page): weekdays **05:30–23:00**, Saturday **05:30–07:00** and **12:30–14:30**, Sunday **17:00–23:00**. Car hire on the Avinor page: **Nordkyn Nordic Safari** (**974 21 900**). Taxi contacts on Avinor’s taxi / car-rental pages: **Taxi Mehamn** (**913 51 134**) and **Taxi Kjøllefjord** (**78 49 84 77**). Parking is **free** on site; **OnePark** runs the product (customer service 24/7 on **64 81 19 80**). Widerøe Ground Handling is the published fixed-wing handler (**+47 67 03 51 40**).
