Official KEF guidance puts the airport ~50 km / 45–50 minutes from Reykjavík centre. Flybus (Reykjavík Excursions) is the default coach: departures timed to arrivals, ~45 minutes to BSÍ Bus Terminal, free Wi-Fi / USB, two bags included — adult one-way from ISK 3,999 on flybus.is; Flybus+ adds hotel/stop drop-off for a higher fare. Strætó public bus 55 is cheaper (Reykjavík–Keflavík countryside fare rose to ISK 2,400 on 1 Jul 2026 per Strætó/Vegagerðin) but runs a fixed timetable with more stops (~60–75+ minutes) and is awkward with heavy luggage. Hreyfill publishes fixed KEF transfers at ISK 22,500 for 1–4 passengers and ISK 29,250 for 5–8; metered trips starting at KEF add a ISK 490 airport fee — KEF’s own first-timer guide cites ~ISK 25,000 as a typical taxi ballpark to central Reykjavík. Car-hire desks sit in the arrivals hall; Blue Lagoon stopovers sell out — book before you fly if that is the plan.

KEF’s official security page still requires classic LAG rules: containers ≤100 ml inside one transparent ~1 L zip bag, bag out of the tray; laptops/large electronics in a separate tray; coats/jackets off. There is no published cabin-liquids CT waiver for 2026 (Iceland Review notes CT scanner replacement targeting ~2028). Fast Track is sold directly to any departing passenger on kefairport.com — Iceland Review / mbl.is citing Isavia terms list ISK 2,480 per passenger; the lane is left of main security on the 2nd floor and the airport’s goal is ~5 minutes through screening. Access is linked to your boarding pass at purchase. Allow extra time in peak morning transatlantic and afternoon European banks; the airport has repeatedly warned of longer-than-usual security waits in busy periods. Icelandair recommends arriving ~2–3 hours before departure (check-in opens 2.5 hours on Icelandair).

The only proper lounge is the Icelandair Saga Lounge on Level 2, reached via stairs next to zone D border control (visit before non-Schengen passport control if you need the lounge on a D-gate itinerary). Amenities include showers, recliners, fireplace, kids’ play area, free Wi-Fi, refreshments and panoramic Reykjanes / Faxaflói views. Access is fare/ status/card based (same-day Saga Premium, Saga Silver/Gold with guest rules, selected Icelandic credit cards, contracted partner premium/elite — confirm on Icelandair’s access table). It does not sell walk-in day passes and does not accept Priority Pass. Icelandair publishes long daily opening windows from ~05:00 (closing times vary by language page / flight bank — confirm live; capacity limits apply in peaks). Priority Pass / LoungeKey members instead redeem an ISK 3,350 dining credit per visit at airside Elda (North Building near duty free) and at Jómfrúin — only if your specific membership still includes restaurant/EAT benefits.

Free airside water fountains; free Wi-Fi; buy arrivals duty-free before reclaim.

Bring an empty bottle through screening and refill at free airside drinking-water fountains (commonly outside toilets and near gates such as A15 / D-area — locations shift; follow fountain signage). Icelandic tap water is excellent. Free Wi-Fi covers the terminal (commonly advertised SSID “Kefairport FreeWifi”). On arrival from non-Schengen, the official flow is passport control → arrivals duty-free → baggage reclaim → customs — locals stop for alcohol because city Vínbúðin prices are much higher (KEF itself pushes this tip). Schengen arrivals skip passport control and go toward reclaim. Airside F&B includes Elda, Jómfrúin and the usual café / grab-and-go mix; prices are Icelandic-airport high.
