GRO is a classic northern-European leisure alternate for Barcelona and the Costa Brava: Ryanair, Ryanair UK, Jet2 and Transavia stack early and late banks—especially summer Saturdays—while midweek troughs feel almost empty. Build about **2–2.5 hours** for peak non-Schengen departures; quieter Schengen troughs are gentler. Landside is a single check-in / bag-drop hall in a compact Aena terminal. After security you enter the boarding zone (Aena notes recent expansion of the check-in lobby, security filters, boarding gates and arrivals). Non-Schengen flights still need passport / EES time after screening—follow gate and border signs before settling into Foodies' or Duty Free. There is no second passenger terminal to confuse with BCN.

The classic mistake is treating GRO like a BCN city-airport hop—budget the coach or taxi clock and verify the IATA code.

Ryanair and holiday sites still market Girona as a Barcelona alternate. The Sagalés Barcelona coach is real (~75 minutes in common third-party schedules; live fare on the operator), but it is not El Prat. Check Aena FIDS and your airline app before leaving the hotel, and make sure your ticket says **GRO**, not **BCN**.
