Plan ~2 hours; LCCs want online check-in; CT lanes still enforce 100 ml liquids — do not assume a 2 L waiver.

Official passenger warnings ask you to be at the airport at least two hours before departure with your boarding pass ready, reflecting record 2025 volumes and growing Ryanair/Wizz banks. Online check-in is effectively mandatory for many LCC tickets — miss it and you can face steep airport check-in fees. Hand-baggage-only passengers with a mobile boarding pass can go straight to security on the 2nd floor of Departures. Classic ≤100 ml liquids rules still apply even though CT scanners usually leave laptops and compliant liquids in the bag. Intra-Schengen travellers off-peak can sometimes tighten toward 90 minutes; morning waves, bags to drop, and non-Schengen need the full two hours. Gates can close ~30 minutes before departure depending on the airline — head to the gate when it opens.

Single 2012 terminal; confirm Schengen vs non-Schengen before you settle — Pearl Lounge is airside 2F after security.

Landside check-in and bag-drop sit on the departures ground floor; security and the airside concourse are upstairs. After screening, follow Schengen vs non-Schengen signs before you park in a café — eight Schengen and five non-Schengen gates share one compact waiting area. Pearl Lounge is airside on the 2nd floor after security: walk toward the shops/gates, turn right into the small corridor (lounge on the left). The General Aviation Terminal is a separate building for private flights — ignore it for scheduled travel. Walking times are short by hub standards; the risk is sitting on the wrong side of the Schengen split, not a long pier hike.

Compact LCC terminal food; landside or the city wins a real meal — lounge snacks help cardholders.

BTS is a low-cost-heavy field of ~2.4M passengers — expect cafés, bakery, fast food and bars rather than a destination food court. Eat a proper meal in Bratislava (or landside before security) when you can; airside covers coffee, snacks and duty-free. Pearl Lounge guests get complimentary snacks plus soft and standard alcoholic drinks. Buy sealed water landside before the 100 ml lane; open bottles must be finished before screening. Free Wi-Fi is advertised in passenger areas — reconnect after security if the session drops.

Record volumes and Vienna overflow traffic; verify live boards, bus 61 times, and EES queues on the day.

2025 was the busiest year in airport history (2,438,215 pax). Many travellers still use BTS as a cheaper alternative to Vienna (VIE) — budget coach time into Austria and do not assume a same-day VIE connection is easy without a large buffer. Summer charter banks (Antalya, Hurghada, etc.) plus Ryanair/Wizz banks stretch security and bus 61. Re-check bts.aero news and live departure boards the day you fly; parking products and Bolt pick-up rules have changed through 2025–2026. Slovakia uses the EU Entry/Exit System for non-EU travellers — allow extra time at passport control when applicable.
