Zurich Airport

Zurich, Switzerland · Europe

ZRH is a one-terminal Swiss hub with a 15-minute train to the Hauptbahnhof. Originating CT screening lets locals keep laptops/electronics and liquids (up to 2 litres) in the bag; transfers still use 100 ml. SWISS First is excellent if you qualify, and Aspire/Marhaba/Primeclass cover the card networks — Primeclass is listed to close 31 Oct 2026.

Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Two to three hours, then check the board

Official airport guidance is 2–3 hours before departure, with a flight-specific recommended arrival time on the departures page.

Originating CT: leave laptops and liquids (up to 2L) in the bag. EES can slow third-country passport control at peaks; Swiss/EU/EFTA travellers should use e-gates (18+ exit, 12+ entry).

Terminal

Dock E is a train, not a walk

Non-Schengen long-haul uses Dock E via the Skymetro from the Airside Center. A and B are Schengen; D is the non-Schengen bus-gate side of Dock B.

Stay airside on connections. Exiting to arrivals means repeating security and, for non-Schengen, passport control.

Food

Sprüngli landside, Duty Free is Avolta

Confiserie Sprüngli is the reliable pastry stop. Airside shops are Zürich Duty Free (Avolta), not Heinemann.

Contract lounges are buffet-level. SWISS First is the restaurant experience if you are actually eligible.

Status

ZRH Comfort is CHF 39, not a lounge

Paid Priority Lane at the Security Control Building plus one snack and a non-alcoholic drink at Pret, Starbucks or NZZ Café.

Star Gold uses SWISS Senator, not First. Cardholders use Aspire / Marhaba / Primeclass — never the SWISS rooms.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Fast train to Zurich HB
Star Alliance connections
Originating CT: laptops & liquids stay packed
SWISS First when eligible

Watch out for

EES queues for third-country passports
Dock E Skymetro time
Transfer screening still 100 ml
Primeclass closing 31 Oct 2026
