Timing

Allow time at the front door

Two screenings plus border control on international flights.

Everyone is screened at the terminal entrance, and international passengers then go through passport and customs control before a second check before boarding. The terminal is small but the airport is under reconstruction, so arrive early and follow the signs; check opening times of check-in with your airline.

Separate buildings for departures and arrivals

Departure terminal plus a temporary arrivals hall during construction.

Departures use the departure terminal opened in 2014. Since August 2026 arrivals have used a temporary hall built while the old 1975 building is replaced by a new terminal due by the end of 2028. Expect construction around the forecourt.

Food

Eat before you come

Very limited food; hours not published.

When it opened in 2014, the departure terminal had a cafeteria and a duty-free shop, but the airport publishes no current outlets or opening hours, and the current commercial area totals only about 322 m². Bring snacks for early or late flights.

Uzbekistan Airports lists Urgench among its airports with a paid CIP hall (separate check-in and control lanes, bar and food), but leaves the Urgench price blank. VIP halls are reserved for official delegations. We found no Priority Pass, LoungeKey or DragonPass lounge.

Urgench International Airport (IATA UGC, ICAO UZNU since October 2025, formerly UTNU) serves Urgench and the Khorezm region. It is about 3 km from central Urgench and about 30 km from Khiva, the walled UNESCO-listed old town that most visitors come for. It is run by Uzbekistan Airports.
Traffic: 862,522 passengers in 2025 (Uzbekistan Civil Aviation Agency and Uzbekistan Airports), about 52% of them on international flights (450,586). Traffic is growing in 2026: 479,527 passengers in January–June, up 24%.
International flights go mainly to Russia (Moscow, St Petersburg and seasonal regional routes) and to Istanbul. Uzbekistan Airways also flies seasonally to European cities such as Rome and Milan. Turkish Airlines is the only alliance airline (Star Alliance).
Domestic flights go to Tashkent (Uzbekistan Airways, Centrum Air, Qanot Sharq and Fly Khiva) and Bukhara. FlyArystan began seasonal Almaty flights in September 2026.
The airport is a building site: a new terminal of about 39,000 m² is being built with Incheon International Airport Corporation and is due by the end of 2028. Departures use the separate departure terminal opened in 2014; arrivals have moved to a temporary hall (opened August 2026) while the old building is replaced.
Since 3 September 2026 an electric train has run from the airport to Khiva via Urgench station. It runs once a day in each direction: to Khiva in the morning and back to the airport in the evening.

Going to Khiva? An electric train runs from the airport to Khiva via Urgench station: train 7055 leaves the airport at 08:40 and reaches Khiva at 09:22. The return train, 7058, leaves Khiva at 21:00 and reaches the airport at 21:42. The adult fare at launch was 25,000 soums (children 14,000). Book at eticket.railway.uz.
