Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Build buffer for U.S. morning banks and holiday weeks

Domestic can look short while U.S./Canada leisure banks stretch curb-to-gate — do not copy a quiet Tuesday onto a Saturday LAX bank.

Aim ~2 hours for straightforward domestic hops; 2.5–3 hours for U.S. or Canada when winter-charter and Saturday turn banks stack check-in, security, and the long Terminal 2 concourse walk. Spring-break and year-end weeks feel worse than a quiet midweek midday. International traffic was the soft side of 2026 through August — that does not shrink peak Saturday security.

Terminal

Two buildings — wrong curb still costs you

T1 vs T2 do not share one sterile hall — check the terminal letter before the curb.

Terminal 1 handles most domestic plus some international; Terminal 2 is the main U.S./Canada/international building (including the former Terminal 3 wing now branded as part of T2). GAP’s English page still mentions three terminals and a Terminal 4 project — that is corporate copy, not your drop-off. Landside walks between T1 and T2 with bags are longer than they look on a map.

Food

Expect tourist-court food, densest after security in T2

Strongest casual density is airside Terminal 2; do not plan on destination dining.

Terminal 2’s airside food court and duty-free corridor are where most international passengers actually eat; Terminal 1 is smaller with a landside/airside snack set. Prices track resort-airport norms — if you have Priority Pass or LoungeKey, the VIP Lounge snack/drink pattern usually beats a full sit-down for a short wait.

Status

PP/LoungeKey = VIP Lounge T1 or T2 — watch T2’s earlier close

Two Collinson VIP Lounges (T1 + T2); redeem after security in the correct building, and do not assume T2 is open until 18:00 on a weekday.

Redeem Priority Pass or LoungeKey at the VIP Lounge in the terminal you are actually departing. Live Priority Pass / Mastercard finder: Terminal 1 08:00–20:00 daily; Terminal 2 Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00, Saturday 08:00–18:00, Sunday 08:00–18:00, with a September 2026 hours notice (Tue/Wed 08:00–16:00, Sunday 08:00–17:00). Max stay 3 hours; children under 7 free. Paid walk-up is often sold when seats remain — confirm the live desk price. DragonPass is not confirmed on a live finder.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

U.S. / Canada resort itineraries using Terminal 2
Priority Pass / LoungeKey holders with daytime departures (T2 weekdays close 17:00)
Domestic Aeroméxico / Volaris / Viva hops via Terminal 1
Travelers who pre-book shuttles or can use the T1 public bus

Watch out for

Wrong terminal curb (T1 vs T2) with bags in the heat
Terminal 2 VIP Lounge weekday close is 17:00, not 18:00 daily
Arrivals-hall touts vs authorized taxis / pre-booked transfers — Uber pickup at SJD is not available
Hurricane-season and peak holiday congestion on a single runway

Updated Sep 19, 2026

GAP Form 6-K December 2025 traffic tables: 7,529.9 thousand terminal passengers in 2025 (+0.6% vs 7,488.1 thousand in 2024) — domestic 2,841.6 thousand, international 4,688.3 thousand. On 2025 AFAC/operator tables that sits behind AICM, Cancún, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana
January–August 2026: 4,976.4 thousand terminal passengers (−5.5% vs 5,265.7 thousand a year earlier). August 2026 was 528.3 thousand (−6.2%): domestic 284.4 thousand (+5.1%), international 243.9 thousand (−16.6%) — GAP 4 September 2026 traffic release
Two commercial passenger buildings today: Terminal 1 (domestic plus some international) and Terminal 2 (international). GAP’s own page still says “three terminals with 4 rooms” / a future Terminal 4 — trust live FIDS and your boarding pass, not the marketing count. Former Terminal 3 capacity is signed as part of Terminal 2
Operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP); ICAO MMSD; Carretera Transpeninsular Km 43.5, San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur C.P. 23420; GAP phones +52 (624) 146-5111 / 5112 / 5113; about 11 km from San José del Cabo. Single asphalt runway 16/34 3,000 × 45 m; field elevation 114 m / 374 ft
Priority Pass and LoungeKey (Mastercard Collinson finder) redeem at VIP Lounge Terminal 1 (mezzanine above the food court; 08:00–20:00 daily; max stay 3 hours; children under 7 free) and VIP Lounge Terminal 2 (food-court area; Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00, Sat 08:00–18:00, Sun 08:00–18:00, with a September 2026 notice tightening some weekdays). Do not tag DragonPass without a live finder hit
Ground: authorized airport taxis and pre-booked resort shuttles dominate arrivals. Ruta del Desierto public bus boards at Terminal 1 — airport-leg fare MXN $100 from the operator’s 28 December 2024 adjustment (not $80). GAP public parking 08:00–20:00: MXN $55 / $110 / $165 / $220 for hours 1–4, $220 daily cap, lost ticket $230
