From Best Airport Tricks & Hacks

Read the boarding pass concourse before you join a queue. A and B are separate sterile products until CSSCP opens. Wrong portal = reclear.
Empty the bottle at TSA and refill beside the restrooms on your concourse. Official pages do not map fillers; the June 2026 traveler pin is the best-documented one.
Last bank after 19:00: assume Ironclad is closed (official airside hours end 19:00) and lean on The Market on Broad (A, to last departure), Club Level Grill (B, 07:00 to last departure), or Hudson.
GRTC 7A/7B leaves from Door #5 on the upper departures deck every 15 minutes to the Downtown Transfer Station. Official Zero Fare — do not budget a ticket. 4:00–6:00 gap: GRTC’s Uber voucher (one ride per day, either direction) from a GRTC stop.
Pickup: sit in the free 40-space cell-phone lot just off Terminal Drive near the main entry plaza until they call, then roll to the curb. Unattended cars on the curb are the ones that get ticketed.
FlyEZ RIC (E-ZPass transponder, dedicated lanes) skips the paper ticket. Economy is still $10/day with the 24/7 EasyPark shuttle — Parking Services 804-236-4030, shuttle 804-236-4032.
Overnight: the building is 24 hours; TSA is not. Sleeping in Airports (26 Mar 2026): landside after 20:00; the landside Business Center on the upper connector near ticketing is the quietest documented corner. No cots, no lockers, no showers.
Do not hunt The Club RIC, an Escape Lounge, or a Capital One lounge. Those names belong to other airports or a Tysons concert hall.

SecurityTraveler Tips & Hacks

Budget 90 minutes — and be airside before 20:00

Official TSA window is 04:00–20:00. PreCheck is here. CLEAR is not.

Two four-lane portals on the upper level. Official quiet-day target is 90 minutes; peak is two hours. After 20:00 you sleep landside and reclear at 04:00 unless TSA or the airline confirms an extension.

Pro

PreCheck is usually the shorter of the two lines on each concourse.

Watch-out

A late inbound does not automatically keep the lanes open.

02

NavigationTraveler Tips & Hacks

A and B are separate sterile halls

Read the concourse on the boarding pass before you queue.

Official FY27 budget: CSSCP ($253.1M, enabling late 2026) is what will let you walk between concourses. Until then the wrong portal means reclear. Live FIDS still moves American/JetBlue/Breeze onto A-side pins and Delta/Southwest/United onto B — confirm tonight.

Pro

One building, two levels, 28 jet bridges — you will not get lost if you pick the right portal.

Watch-out

Tight misconnects that assume an airside hallway will fail.

TransportTraveler Tips & Hacks

Door #5 or the $10 Economy lot

Free bus every 15 minutes; cheapest park-and-ride is still on airport.

GRTC 7A/7B from the upper deck. Taxi and Ride App Pickup (Uber/Lyft only) on the lower curb — turn right to the green signs. Cell-phone lot is 40 free attended spaces off Terminal Drive.

Pro

Zero Fare bus plus $10 Economy with a 24/7 shuttle is rare at this size.

Watch-out

No terminal rail. First 60 minutes free only in Daily/Hourly, not Economy.

04

LoungeTraveler Tips & Hacks

Do not hunt The Club RIC

There is no Priority Pass, airline club, or day-pass room.

Sit at Cross Grain (A) or Sam Adams / Club Level Grill (B). The USO downstairs is military ID only. CSSCP drawings include lounge capacity — it is not a room you can enter today.

Pro

You will not waste ten minutes looking for a door that does not exist.

Watch-out

A long delay is a restaurant seat, not a shower.

05

FoodTraveler Tips & Hacks

Clear first, then eat on your concourse

Official kitchens do not cross the A/B split.

Atrium Applebee’s and the 04:00–16:00 Ironclad are landside. Airside Ironclad closes 19:00. Market on Broad (A) and Club Level Grill (B) hold for the last departure. Hardywood/Puck/Beet Box/Homegrown are still missing from the official list as of 10 Sep 2026.

Pro

Local coffee (Ironclad) and a brewpub (Cross Grain) beat a generic food court.

Watch-out

Nothing is 24 hours. Sleeping in Airports’ Caribou pin is stale — official name is Ironclad.
