Pacific leisure gateway: one GAP commercial complex with a domestic/national hall and an international satellite, three Priority Pass VIP Lounges, heavy U.S./Canada winter banks, and ground transport that rewards pre-booking — the pedestrian bridge cuts taxi cost if you can haul bags in the heat.

Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Build buffer for U.S./Canada morning banks and holiday weeks

Domestic can look short while U.S./Canada leisure banks stretch curb-to-gate — do not copy a quiet Tuesday onto a Saturday LAX or YYC bank.

Aim ~2 hours for straightforward domestic hops; 2.5–3 hours for U.S. or Canada when winter-charter and Saturday turn banks stack check-in, security, immigration (on arrival), and the walk to the international satellite. Spring-break and year-end weeks feel worse than a quiet midweek midday.

Terminal

Domestic hall vs international satellite — wrong stream still costs you

One complex, two sterile products after screening — follow domestic vs international signs from check-in.

Landside is one commercial complex, but after security you are in the domestic/national stream or the international satellite (often signed Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2 on lounge and GAP materials). Confirm domestic vs international on the boarding pass before you queue; the new Terminal 2 construction site is not passenger-ready yet.

Food

Expect tourist-court food, denser after security

Strongest casual density is airside; do not plan on destination dining.

Airside cafés, quick-service counters, and the international satellite food/retail strip are where most leisure passengers actually eat; landside is thinner once you are committed to a bank. Prices track resort-airport norms — if you have Priority Pass, a VIP Lounge snack/drink pattern usually beats a full sit-down for a short wait.

Status

PP = three VIP Lounges — national, international, or arrivals

Three Priority Pass VIP Lounges; redeem after the correct security or arrivals filter.

Redeem Priority Pass / LoungeKey at the VIP Lounge matching your journey leg: national departures after the food court, international departures between gates ~10–12, or arrivals after immigration/customs. There is no separate airline alliance walk-up club on the Priority Pass directory — Aeroméxico / card lounges (if any that day) are separate products.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

U.S. / Canada resort itineraries into the international satellite
Priority Pass holders on daytime national or international departures
Domestic Aeroméxico / Volaris / Viva hops on the national side
Travelers who pre-book shuttles or can use the highway pedestrian bridge

Watch out for

Official airport taxi premium vs cheaper bridge-side city taxis / rideshare
International VIP Lounge and Arrivals hours flex — late banks can miss them
New Terminal 2 construction noise/wayfinding while the old complex still operates
Single runway 04/22 — weather or an incident pauses the whole leisure bank

Guide quick facts

Updated Sep 18, 2026

Mexico’s #8 airport by passengers — GAP Form 6-K / December 2025 traffic tables list 6,947.7 thousand terminal passengers in 2025 (+2.1% vs 6,803.5 thousand in 2024): domestic 3,123.4 thousand (+9.9%), international 3,824.3 thousand (−3.5%)
One primary commercial passenger complex today: domestic/national side (often signed Terminal 1 / Concourse A, roughly gates 1–5) plus an international satellite (often signed Terminal 2 / Concourse B, roughly gates 6–20) linked airside by a walkway. A large new Terminal 2 building is under construction (GAP targeting first contact gates around December 2026) — it is not yet the main passenger product; trust live FIDS and your boarding pass
Operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP); ICAO MMPR; Carretera a Tepic Km 7.5, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco C.P. 48311; about 7.5 km from Puerto Vallarta and ~10 miles from Nuevo Vallarta / Riviera Nayarit; elevation ~7 m / 23 ft; single asphalt runway 04/22 ~3,100 × 45 m
Priority Pass / LoungeKey redeem at three GAP VIP Lounges: national departures (after security, after the food court before the international connector; Priority Pass lists ~08:00–20:00), international departures (upper level between gates ~10–12; live Priority Pass lists 10:00–19:30), and arrivals (after immigration/customs; live Priority Pass lists 10:00–20:00). Children under 7 free and 3-hour max stay on current PP conditions — hours flex with banks, so re-check the app
Heavy U.S. and Canadian leisure banks (Alaska, American, Delta, United, Southwest, Air Canada, WestJet, Porter and peers) plus Aeroméxico / Volaris / Viva / TAR domestic spine — winter and spring-break Saturdays are the crush days
Ground: prepaid authorized airport taxis from arrivals booths (zone fares); cheaper city taxis / rideshare / local buses after walking the pedestrian bridge across the highway; GAP public parking is 24 hours with prepaid machines (first hour MXN $50, day-1 max MXN $450 on the published tariff board — confirm live rates)
