Timing

Book PHX RESERVE and aim past the 5–8 a.m. bank

Reserve a free PHX RESERVE slot 240–60 minutes before departure, and avoid the early bank when PreCheck lanes and general lines spike.

PreCheck at T4 checkpoints typically runs 5 a.m.–7 p.m.; late-evening PreCheck can disappear even when the checkpoint is open.

Terminal

Pick the short T4 checkpoint, not the closest door

In Terminal 4, walk to the shortest of Checkpoints A–D—every airside gate is reachable from any of them.

Checkpoint A is 24 hours; B closes earlier (~8:30 p.m.), D mid-evening, and C runs late—check skyharbor.com live minutes before you commit.

Food

Eat on the D side or pre-security in T4

Southwest/D-gate food (and many landside spots) outclasses the thin A/B/C options most American passengers default to.

Locals push Matt’s Big Breakfast, Four Peaks, Pedal Haus, and Zinc; for Priority Pass, Escape is only in T3, so don’t cross terminals just for a snack.
