Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Build 90–120 minutes for Southwest banks

Peak pressure is early morning and late afternoon Southwest banks in Terminal 2. PreCheck and CLEAR help; the airside connector lets you pick the shorter checkpoint when you have time.

Premier parking still dispenses a security fast-pass on entry.

Terminal

Walk airside between T1 and T2

You do not re-clear to change terminals after security. International arrivals process in Terminal 1; JSX uses a separate building on Earhart Road.

Connector runs near Gate 4 (T1) and Gate 20 (T2); landside curb walk is short.

Food

Use the T1–T2 connector for better food

Terminal 2 is Southwest-heavy and fills at banks. Walk to Terminal 1 for more variety or the Escape Lounge if your card or day pass covers it.

Escape Lounge food is the sit-down option if you have access.

Status

Priority Pass is Escape Lounges only

Ignore leftover “The Club OAK” or Alaska Lounge listings. Live Priority Pass lists Escape Lounges in Terminal 1. Confirm hours — weekday evenings run later than Sunday.

Alaska’s official lounge list has no Oakland location.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Southwest-heavy itineraries
East Bay/Oakland origins
BART-connected city trips
Quick low-stress domestic departures

Watch out for

Only one Priority Pass lounge (closes early)
Southwest peak crowds and limited gate seating
BART requires Coliseum transfer + higher airport connector fare
Facilities feel dated pending modernization
