Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Arrive 90-120 min early for domestic

Security averages 10-25 min overall and under 10 with PreCheck; peak banks (early morning Southwest waves and late afternoon) push it higher.

New terminal is compact so curb-to-gate is often under 20 min off-peak, but factor bag drop and the walk to far B gates.

Terminal

Use moving walkways for Concourse B

Concourse A is closest to security; B requires a longer walk or walkways—farthest gates take ~7-10 min from check-in.

Departures/check-in and security are on Level 2; arrivals/baggage on Level 1—no inter-terminal trains needed.

Food

Hit City Market Food Hall in B atrium

Best concentration of local spots (Taste of Brazil, Pigwich, Boulevard Beer Hall, Bo Lings, Buffalo State Pizza) right after security toward B.

Pre-security options are limited (Dunkin’ upstairs, grab-and-go downstairs); 24-hr &Go exists airside near B gates.

Status

Check FlyKC app or site for live gates/parking

On-time performance hovers ~75-78%; weather and hub connections can cascade delays—monitor your airline app plus flykc.com.

New terminal has improved resilience vs old multi-terminal setup, but still mid-tier US performance.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Efficient domestic connections and Southwest-heavy travel
Local Kansas City food and brewery experience airside
Priority Pass / Escape Lounge users seeking value
Budget ground transport via free bus or cheap Economy parking

Watch out for

Longer walks to far Concourse B gates without using walkways
Security peaks during early Southwest banks and holidays
Limited pre-security dining and no major non-Delta airline lounges
On-time performance around 75-78% with weather sensitivity
