Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Connected DoA leisure field — still leave slack for CIQ, weather, and taxiway works

Short walks once you are in the right stream; CIQ windows, monsoon banks, and 2026 taxiway works still punish thin connections.

KBV is compact once you pick international vs domestic, but a single 3,000 m runway, Andaman thunderstorms, and AIRAC SUP A21/26 taxiway construction through 30 Nov 2026 still chew buffers. Domestic ~90 minutes early is usually enough; international wants a full ~2.5–3 hours for TDAC QR, immigration, and security. AIP customs/immigration is 0130–0930 UTC plus on demand — not 24/7 CIQ. Confirm your airline’s handling advice for very early or late international turns.

Terminal

Enter via Terminal 1 — T3 is real, not a blog typo

Connected T1–T3 campus; international still needs immigration. Do not plan a sterile domestic↔international walk.

All travellers enter via Terminal 1 on the airport’s Oct 2025 note. Check-in Zones A/B sit on the third floor. International departures use gates 1–7; domestic use gates 8–14. Terminal 3 has been the international building since the 29 May 2022 soft opening; the new domestic hall opened 26 Sep / 10 Oct 2025. Same-day self-connects that change from a domestic arrival to an international departure still mean landside transfer, re-screening, and immigration/TDAC. Screenshot KBV (VTSG) ≠ HKT and ≠ USM.

Food

Pearl Exclusive if you have PP / LoungeKey / DragonPass — otherwise landside sealed water

One live network lounge, international only. Landside sealed water is the cheap hydration play.

Priority Pass, LoungeKey, and DragonPass holders on international departures should clear immigration first and use The Pearl Exclusive Lounge before buying deep airside — watch the 2-hour stay cap. There is no live PP domestic room. Bangkok Airways does not list a KBV Boutique Lounge. Landside sealed water and snacks before security remain the cheap play with no lounge entitlement. This is not a food-destination airport.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Ao Nang / Railay / Koh Lanta leisure trips with a short-to-medium road transfer
Priority Pass / LoungeKey / DragonPass holders on international departures who clear immigration first
Domestic AirAsia / Lion / Thai / Bangkok Airways banks toward BKK / DMK / HKT spokes
Travelers who prefer a smaller DoA field over overcrowded HKT when the schedule fits

Watch out for

No sterile walk between domestic and international — immigration/TDAC still apply
Only one live network lounge (Pearl Exclusive) — international airside, max 2h; PP/LK say T1, DragonPass says T3
Published customs/immigration window plus on-demand — late charters can wait on CIQ
Taxiway construction (SUP A21/26) through 30 Nov 2026 on the single 14/32 runway
TDAC QR mandatory for foreign arrivals since 1 May 2025

Guide quick facts

Updated Oct 9, 2026

Krabi International Airport (IATA KBV / ICAO VTSG) is a civilian Department of Airports (DoA) field in Nuea Khlong district, 10 km northeast of Krabi town (CAAT AIP VTSG, 1 Oct 2026 AIRAC). Operator is DoA — not Airports of Thailand (AOT) and not a military airbase. AIP address: Director of Krabi Airport, Amphoe Nuea Khlong, Krabi 81130. Opened 10 July 1999. The DoA Krabi minisite was unreachable on 9 Oct 2026; use the parent portal airports.go.th plus AIP for primary facts.
The campus is now a connected T1–T3 complex, not the old split T1-international / T2-domestic story. Terminal 3 soft-opened 29 May 2022 for international flights. A new domestic passenger hall opened 26 September 2025 and went fully live on 10 October 2025 (DoA deputy-director briefing via MGR Online 21 Sep 2025; airport-cited Asian Trails note 10 Oct 2025). Published design capacity is 8 million passengers per year / 3,000 per hour, with T3 joining renovated T1 and T2. Airport-cited flow: all travellers enter via Terminal 1; checked-bag check-in on the third floor Zones A/B; international gates 1–7; domestic gates 8–14. Immigration still sits on the international leg — do not assume a sterile domestic↔international airside walk.
Traffic (Krabi Airport open-data catalog, Thai year 2568 / calendar 2025, updated April 2026): 3,053,802 passengers — 2,289,115 domestic and 764,687 international. The same series recorded 2,582,935 in 2024. Wikipedia’s DoA-cited 2025 compilation is 3,053,553; treat that 249-passenger gap as table rounding, not a second airport. The national DoA 2025 flight-level workbook on gdcatalog.airports.go.th was last stamped 22 Dec 2025 and under-counts a full calendar year — do not use its raw sum as the annual figure.
Airfield (CAAT AIP VTSG, 1 Oct 2026 AIRAC): single runway 14/32 — 3,000 × 45 m asphaltic concrete, PCR 800/F/C/X/T. TORA/TODA/LDA 3,000 m both ways; ASDA 3,060 m. Aerodrome elevation 95 ft / 30 °C; THR 14 85 ft, THR 32 95 ft. ARP 08°05′45″N 098°59′20″E. Rescue fire category 9; aerodrome H24. Customs / immigration / health 0130–0930 UTC (08:30–16:30 ICT) plus on demand. Money exchange 0200–1100 UTC. AIRAC SUP A21/26: new taxiways P/G/H and lighting works 11 Jun 2026–30 Nov 2026.
Lounges: live Priority Pass Krabi directory (9 Oct 2026) lists only The Pearl Exclusive Lounge (PP kbv1) — international airside after passport control, Level 3, 05:30–23:00 daily, max stay 2 hours, children under 2 free, PP ~4.2 / 315 reviews. Mastercard LoungeKey KBV1 matches those hours. DragonPass A10227 / N04618 lists the same room as Terminal 3 with the same 05:30–23:00 clock. Public PP and LoungeKey still print Terminal 1; DragonPass and Amex print Terminal 3 — follow the immigration-exit walk. Bangkok Airways’ Boutique Lounge blog (9 Nov 2025) lists BKK / CNX / HKT, not KBV.
