Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Compact new hall — still budget one strip and IndiGo-shaped banks

New hall helps; one runway plus IndiGo-shaped banks still need real buffers.

JLR’s March 2024 terminal is easier to read than the old shell, but the field remains a single-runway domestic station with IndiGo-heavy banks, mid-2026 Delhi frequency cuts (FPJ: 14 → 11 weekly from 1 Jul 2026), and monsoon / wildlife history on 06/24. DigiYatra is not a confirmed live product here on mid-2026 national lists — plan for full CISF queues. Domestic ~2 hours early is the sane default. There is no Priority Pass soft room to absorb a delay stack.

Terminal

One 2024 integrated hall — three aerobridges, no second campus

Single 2024 passenger hall; no PP soft lounge.

Screenshot JLR ≠ BHO ≠ IDR ≠ GWL ≠ HJR before the car leaves Jabalpur / Katni / Mandla / Seoni. All scheduled passengers clear the 10 March 2024 integrated terminal (~10,701 m²; ~800 peak-hour design; three aerobridges on public summaries). Old-terminal blogs, canopy-collapse porch photos from Jun 2024, and rename CGI are not today’s check-in map. Live Priority Pass directory = no Jabalpur soft pin.

Food

Landside sealed water is Plan A — there is no PP soft room

No live PP soft room; landside bottles beat airside pricing.

Buy sealed water and snacks landside before CISF; airside café markup is the usual Indian-airport tax. Live Priority Pass India index has no Jabalpur lounge page — ignore Primus / Plaza Premium / Travel Club / Airr inventions from aggregator mirrors.

Access

Prepaid taxi Plan A — Dumna is ~25 km east, no terminal metro

Road hop into Jabalpur; metro is not at the kerb.

Use official prepaid taxi counters in arrivals or signed Ola / Uber pickup for the Dumna run into central Jabalpur (often ~45–75 minutes in normal traffic; confirm the board / app quote). Jabalpur Junction is a separate road transfer. Do not invent an in-terminal metro or rail platform from state transit planning coverage.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Domestic trips to/from Jabalpur / Mahakaushal with a prepaid taxi buffer
Travellers road-transferring onward to Kanha, Bandhavgarh, or Pench
IndiGo ticket holders who prefer a single compact 2024 hall over dual-campus fields
Travellers who do not need Priority Pass soft-lounge access

Watch out for

No Priority Pass lounge: the jabalpur PP path redirects to the national India index
DigiYatra not confirmed live here; plan full CISF queues
IndiGo drops Jabalpur-Indore after 24 Oct 2026 (only direct link); about five IndiGo departures a day this winter
Dumna is ~25 km east; no terminal metro; Junction and tiger parks need separate road time

Guide quick facts

From the editorial guide for JLR.

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Jabalpur Airport (IATA JLR / ICAO VAJB), also still widely called Dumna Airport, is Madhya Pradesh’s eastern civil gateway and the state’s third-busiest airport by passengers and movements after Indore (IDR) and Bhopal (BHO). The AAI campus sits at Dumna, about 25 km east of the city (airline directories often round ~26 km). Owner and operator is the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Official passenger page pattern: https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/jabalpur. Screenshot JLR (VAJB) ≠ BHO (Bhopal) ≠ IDR (Indore) ≠ GWL (Gwalior) ≠ HJR (Khajuraho) — the wrong Madhya Pradesh IATA is a multi-hour road day, not an airside hop. This is a pure AAI public domestic field — not a passenger enclave on a naval or air-force base like VTZ / PNQ / GOI.
One new integrated passenger terminal (inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference on 10 March 2024 as part of a statewide / national airport package; Wikipedia / AAI-facing summaries cite ~115,180 sq ft / ~10,701 m², peak-hour design capacity ~800 passengers, three aerobridges, advanced baggage screening, and parking for more than 250 cars and buses) handles all scheduled passenger flows. The same ~₹412 crore upgrade package delivered the runway extension to 2,750 m, a ~32 m ATC tower cum technical block, apron / taxiway / isolation bay works, a fire station, a longer approach road, and a longer boundary wall. Treat rename talk (Rani Durgavati) and future capacity CGI as politics / planning — not today’s second passenger campus.
Traffic (AAI annexes for FY 2025–26 / 1 Apr 2025–31 Mar 2026, as compiled on Wikipedia from archived Mar2k26 Annex II–IV PDFs): 514,641 passengers (+31%), 5,859 aircraft movements (+17.2%), and 0 t cargo (steady). Prefer AAI annex PDFs when auditing. Mid-2026 local press (Free Press Journal, 27 Jun 2026) described IndiGo as the only scheduled passenger airline on the field with 30+ weekly departures and a Delhi cut from 14 → 11 weekly flights from 1 Jul 2026 — always trust the ticket and FIDS, never a brochure.
Airfield (Wikipedia technical summaries for VAJB): single runway 06/24 — 2,750 m × asphalt after the May 2023 trial / early-June 2023 regular ops (extended from ~1,988 m); second-longest runway in Madhya Pradesh after Indore (~2,754 m) and ahead of Bhopal (~2,744 m); aerodrome elevation about 495 m / 1,624 ft; night landing with DVOR/DME / PAPI / edge lighting on AAI public summaries; ILS cited as under process after the runway expansion. DigiYatra is not on the mid-2026 “live at ~30 airports” public lists that include Indore / Bagdogra / Raipur / Ranchi — do not invent biometric e-gates at Jabalpur from AAI tender titles that merely list the airport name.
Lounges (Priority Pass India directory, checked 21 Oct 2026): no Jabalpur / JLR lounge. The path /lounges/india/jabalpur redirects to the national India index. Do not invent Primus / Plaza Premium / Travel Club / Airr / Encalm pins from aggregator mirrors.
Ground: prepaid taxi / signed app cabs remain Plan A for the Dumna run into Civil Lines / Russel Chowk / Railway Station / Medical College (~45–75 minutes in normal traffic; confirm the board / app quote). Jabalpur Junction is a separate road transfer — there is no passenger rail or metro platform inside the terminal. Late nights default to prepaid / app cabs.
