Timing

Arrive 3 hours early for international

Security waits average 20–30 minutes but spike in T4/T5 afternoons.

TSA PreCheck and Clear cut waits at T1, T4, T5, and T8. T4 and T5 still spike in the afternoon. Confirm the terminal within 24 hours — T7 is still live and T6 is not yet a passenger terminal.

Terminal

Use AirTrain — do not walk between terminals

AirTrain runs 24/7 between terminals with no fare inside the airport.

Inter-terminal AirTrain hops take about 5–15 minutes and are free. T7 is still a real passenger building. T6 first gates remain a 2026 construction target, not a live check-in hall.

Food

T4 has the widest landside and airside spread

Landside options in T4 and T5 beat airside crowds for a quick meal.

T4 landside options beat a desperate airside queue before a long-haul. T5 is fine for JetBlue. T1 and T7 are thinner overnight.

Status

Live Priority Pass is T1 plus a morning Virgin window

Open the Priority Pass app the day you fly — hours are narrower than blogs.

Chase Sapphire Lounge and Capital One Lounge do not accept Priority Pass on the live directory. Virgin Clubhouse PP is 05:00–13:30 only. Air France is 07:00–00:00, not 07:00–21:00. Lufthansa is Tuesday/Wednesday evenings only until further notice.

Official PANYNJ 2025 Annual Traffic Report table: 62,629,455 revenue passengers. The same PDF’s narrative rounds that to “63 million.” 2024 ATR narrative was 63.3 million. Use the table figure, not a rounded marketing line.
Live passenger terminals on jfkairport.com (18 Sep 2026): 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8. Terminal 7 is still open (Frontier, Aer Lingus, ANA, Air Canada, Norse). Terminal 6 first gates are still described as 2026 with phase 2 in 2028 — T6 has not opened as a passenger terminal on this check. Do not write “active terminals 1, 4, 5, 8 only.”
AirTrain is free between terminals, parking, hotels, and the rental-car center. Jamaica / Howard Beach is $8.75. MTA subway base fare is $3.00 from 4 January 2026, so AirTrain + subway is $11.75 to Manhattan.
Official taxi is TLC Rate #2: $70 flat to Manhattan plus tolls, tip, and listed surcharges (MTA tax, improvement surcharge, weekday 16:00–20:00 rush, NYS congestion, MTA congestion, airport access fee). jfkairport.com states $70 plus tolls, tip, and $2.75–$8.50 in additional fees.
