Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport (IATA IDR / ICAO VAID; also styled Devi Ahilyabai Holkar / DABH / Bijasen Tekri in local and AAI usage) is Madhya Pradesh’s busiest civil gateway and Central India’s primary commercial airport, about 8 km west of Indore on a ~729-acre AAI campus. Owner and operator is the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Official passenger page: https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/indore. This is a pure civil AAI field (Madhya Pradesh Flying Club sits at the south end of the runway) — not a passenger enclave on an air base.
Two passenger terminals share the campus. Terminal 2 is the 2012 integrated New Integrated Terminal Building (~18,000 m²; ~4 million annual design; ~700 peak passengers/hour; 16 check-in desks; 11 gates / 5 aerobridges on public summaries) and still carries most jet domestic banks. Renovated Terminal 1 (~6,000 m²; ~1.5 million design; ~₹50 crore; 14 check-in counters) was inaugurated 29 Mar 2026 (Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu virtually; CM Mohan Yadav on site per ToI) to decongest T2 — public coverage says T1 is intended for smaller ATR-type domestic turns and international processing, with flight ops from the renovated shell starting in April 2026. Combined published capacity is about 5 million passengers/year. There is no sterile airside walk between T1 and T2 — follow your boarding pass and the day’s FIDS, not a blog that freezes a single-hall map.
Traffic (AAI figures reported by Free Press Journal for FY 2025–26 / 1 Apr 2025–31 Mar 2026): 4,457,659 passengers and 32,575 flight operations — a record year despite nightly runway closures for most of that FY. Wikipedia’s AAI-annex compilation for FY 2024–25 listed about 3.76 million passengers. Prefer AAI annex PDFs when auditing. Domestic banks are IndiGo-heavy into Delhi / Mumbai / Bengaluru / Hyderabad and similar trunks. International is thin and schedule-volatile: Air India Express launched a subsidised Indore– Abu Dhabi (Zayed) nonstop around 15 Jul 2026 (commonly cited four days/week — Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun in state coverage) after an earlier Sharjah product had been suspended — always trust the ticket and FIDS, never a brochure.
Airfield (Wikipedia / public technical summaries for VAID): single runway 07/25 — about 2,754 m × 45 m composite; aerodrome elevation about 1,850 ft / 528 m; CAT I ILS published on runway 25; night-landing capability since 2018. Runway recarpeting forced nightly closures from Nov 2024 (later commonly 22:30–06:30) through 31 Mar 2026; AAI / Mathrubhumi coverage says 24-hour runway availability resumed from 1 Apr 2026. DigiYatra launched 6 Sep 2024 as part of the MoCA/PIB nine-airport AAI expansion (ToI / PIB) — domestic biometric facilitation only.
Lounges (live Priority Pass Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International / IDR directory, checked Sep 2026): one soft room — Primus Lounge (domestic airside after security, 1st floor next to Gate 6; published 00:00–23:59 daily; max stay 3 hours; children under 12 free; digital card accepted; à la carte menu and standard alcohol listed as extra payment on PP). Live PP soft directory = Primus only — do not invent Plaza Premium / Travel Club / Encalm soft pins from aggregator mirrors.
Ground: prepaid taxi / signed app cabs remain Plan A for the ~8 km / often ~20–40 minute run into Rajwada / Railway Station / Vijay Nagar. There is no Indore Metro station inside the passenger terminals — treat any metro coverage as city-network news, not an airport people-mover. Indore Junction is a separate road transfer. Late nights default to prepaid / app cabs.
