Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

One CAT I runway — T2 is the only passenger hall, but fog still eats buffers

Operator wants 2 hours domestic and 4 hours international; DigiYatra helps only at signed doors.

The operator departure guide asks for two hours on domestic and four hours on international. T2 has DigiYatra-enabled processing per Adani’s 22 February 2026 ops release, but the live DigiYatra FAQ still describes Terminal 1 gates — look for signed biometric doors on the day rather than inventing full-campus coverage. VEGT ILS is CAT I on RWY 02, not CAT III, so winter fog and monsoon cells on the single 02/20 strip still ripple every bank. Adani Silver Lounge publishes near-24h hours with a 2-hour Priority Pass cap (LoungeKey lists 3 hours) — confirm the live app pin before you bank a soak.

Terminal

All listed airlines are Terminal 2 — ignore T1 blogs

Operator airline table is T2-only. T1 is the older shell with no published scheduled carrier.

Akasa opened T2 on 22 February 2026; SpiceJet and Alliance Air on 1 March 2026; Air India / Air India Express on 16 March 2026; international flights on 2 July 2026; IndiGo exclusively from 20 July 2026. The October 2026 operator airline table lists Alliance Air, Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, Akasa, SpiceJet, Thai AirAsia, and Druk Air at T2. Screenshot GAU ≠ IXB ≠ IMF ≠ DIB. There is no sterile T1↔T2 walk. IndiGo’s Guwahati–Bangkok service is published from 27 October 2026 — still T2, still confirm the ticket.

Food

Adani Silver on T2 if entitled — otherwise landside sealed water before CISF

The live T2 soft room is Adani Silver. Landside bottles beat airside markup.

Live Priority Pass / LoungeKey T2 room is Adani Silver Lounge near Gate 6 (PP 00:00–23:59 / max 2h; LoungeKey 24h / max 3h; children under 5 free on both). The Lounge near Gate 2 is still listed but sits in the old T1 SHA — skip it unless your boarding pass actually says T1. Do not count on DragonPass. Without entitlement, buy sealed water landside before CISF; the operator still publishes 100 ml LAG / clear-bag screening. Free Airtel Wi-Fi is GAU_FreeWi-Fi with OTP; the shop-and-dine page’s 120-minute vs 45-minute wording conflicts — confirm on the day.

Access

Prepaid taxi / signed app cab Plan A — ASTC ₹100 when the timetable fits

Road access only. ASTC publishes ₹100; T2 parking is 8 minutes free for private cars.

Use signed prepaid / Guwahati Airport Taxi Association desks or signed Uber / WTI / SMARTO pickup. ASTC’s own page lists ₹100 AC premium buses from Paltanbazar and Khanapara on a daytime timetable — last airport departures are not 24h. Kamakhya JN is the nearest major rail head (operator FAQ) — budget a road hop. Terminal 2 parking: 0–8 minutes free for private/non-commercial vehicles only, then ₹150 / ₹200 in the first hour bands. Operator transport copy still names Terminal 1 kerbs; follow live T2 signs.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Northeast India trips ticketed into GAU (not IXB / IMF / DIB)
Domestic IndiGo / Air India / Akasa banks into Terminal 2
Priority Pass or LoungeKey holders who can use Adani Silver Lounge (T2 domestic near Gate 6)
Travellers who can use prepaid taxi / signed app cabs or the daytime ASTC ₹100 bus

Watch out for

GAU (VEGT) ≠ IXB Bagdogra ≠ IMF Imphal ≠ DIB Dibrugarh — wrong Northeast IATA is a multi-hour road recovery
Terminal 1 blogs — the operator airline table is T2-only after 20 July 2026
Wikipedia CAT III / 3,110 m runway copy — AIP VEGT is CAT I ILS on RWY 02 and 3,105 × 45 m
Do not count on DragonPass at this Adani airport

Guide quick facts

From the editorial guide for GAU.

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (IATA GAU / ICAO VEGT; also styled Lokapriya / LGBIA) is Guwahati’s civil passenger gateway at Borjhar. AAI India eAIP VEGT: ARP 26°06′18″N 091°35′08″E (26.10500, 91.58556), 242° / 18 km from Guwahati Railway Station, elevation 163 ft (about 50 m). Owner is the Airports Authority of India; operator is Guwahati International Airport Limited (Adani Airports) under a long PPP concession. Official passenger site: https://lgbia-guwahati.adaniairports.com/. Screenshot GAU (VEGT) ≠ IXB (Bagdogra) ≠ IMF (Imphal) ≠ DIB (Dibrugarh).
Passenger product is Terminal 2. The Kopou-orchid / bamboo hall (Nuru Karim / Nudes) was inaugurated 20 December 2025 and began commercial ops 22 February 2026 (Adani). Design capacity is framed at about 13.1 million passengers a year. Air India / Air India Express moved 16 March 2026; all international flights moved to T2 from 2 July 2026 (Assam Tribune, airport advisory); IndiGo moved exclusively from 00:01 on 20 July 2026. The operator airline table (checked October 2026) lists every published carrier — Alliance Air, Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, Akasa, SpiceJet, Thai AirAsia, Druk Air — at T2. There is no sterile walk from the older Terminal 1 shell.
Traffic: Adani / GIAL via Assam Tribune and The Economic Times reported calendar-year 2025 throughput of 7.01 million passengers (about 3.5 million domestic arrivals + 3.4 million domestic departures; 45,423 international arrivals + 45,474 international departures), 47,550 domestic + 1,000 international aircraft movements, and a single-day peak of 22,089 on 5 October 2025. Assam Tribune separately reported FY 2024–25 at 6.57 million passengers and 12,893 MT cargo. Wikipedia’s April 2025–March 2026 infobox (6,622,784) still cites AAI annexes retrieved 27 April 2025 — treat that year label as unverified and prefer the dated Adani CY print.
Airfield (AAI India eAIP VEGT): single runway 02/20 — 3,105 m × 45 m asphalt; TORA/TODA/ASDA/LDA 3,105 m; LOC 02 is CAT I (IGHT 110.300 MHz), not CAT III. DVOR/DME GGT and PAPI are published. IFR/VFR; aerodrome reference code 4D; fire category 7. Do not copy Wikipedia’s 3,110 m × 60 m / CAT-III line — the AIP wins.
Lounges (live Priority Pass and LoungeKey, 15 October 2026): Adani Silver Lounge is the T2 domestic room (PP gau4, LK GAU4) after security near Gate 6. PP hours 00:00–23:59, max stay 2 hours, children under 5 free; LoungeKey lists 24 hours daily with a 3-hour max stay and the same under-5 rule. The Lounge (PP gau3, LK GAU3) is still listed as domestic after SHA, ground floor near Gate 2, 05:00–22:00 — that pin matches the old Terminal 1 hall, which no longer has a published scheduled airline. DragonPass still shows airport A28045 / Adani Silver N14074, but Adani ended the DragonPass partnership in May 2025 — do not count on it. Operator lounge page still only markets T1 “The Lounge 1/2” as 24-hour card / walk-up rooms; that page has not caught up with T2.
Ground: AIP distance is 18 km from Guwahati Railway Station. ASTC’s own airport-bus page publishes ₹100 Paltanbazar / Khanapara–airport AC premium buses (daytime timetable, not 24h). Operator FAQ (updated 12 October 2026) names Kamakhya JN as the nearest rail head, EV AC buses, Uber / SMARTO, and autos; organised parking is at Terminal 2. Private/non-commercial vehicles get 0–8 minutes free; 8–30 minutes is ₹150 and 30 minutes–1 hour is ₹200 on the first parking table, with ₹1,000 for 4–24 hours. Commercial vehicles are not eligible for the free window. No metro into the terminal. Operator departure guide: 2 hours for domestic, 4 hours for international.
