Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Arrive 60-75 minutes early max

Security averages 10-20 minutes (peaks 5-9am/4-8pm hit 20-30+); PreCheck often under 5-10.

Small size means you can clear and reach any gate in under 10 minutes walk—skip the 2-hour LAX buffer.

Terminal

Know your airline's side

Terminal A for Southwest/American/JetBlue; Terminal B for Alaska/Delta/United—both share one entrance and are a short walk apart.

No long concourses; common mistake is missing the elevated walkway to RITC for trains/buses/rentals.

Food

Eat before security or budget big

Airside options are limited and pricey (Guy Fieri spots dominate); grab from nearby Porto's or downtown Burbank if time allows.

Expect $15-30+ for basic meals; pre-security has a few more choices near main entrance.

Status

New terminal changes everything soon

Current 1930s-era building is functional but dated; Elevate BUR 14-gate replacement opens October 13, 2026 with better amenities but still no lounges.

Track construction at elevatebur.com; expect temporary disruptions near opening.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

San Fernando Valley / Hollywood / Glendale / Pasadena travelers
Avoiding LAX traffic and long security
Quick regional Southwest/Alaska hops
Rail-connected trips to DTLA

Watch out for

Expensive limited food (Guy Fieri monopoly vibes, $20+ basics)
No lounges or premium seating options
Stairs-only boarding and aging terminals until late 2026
Morning/evening security banks and parking fill-ups
