Most important tips

Know before you go

A compact traveler cheat sheet for timing, terminals, food, and disruption checks.

Timing

Compact terminal — still budget Gulf Air banks

Arrive ~3h before long-haul / ~2h before short-haul; transfer stays airside via transfer security.

One modern terminal keeps walking times short versus DXB/DOH, but Gulf Air departure banks and morning regional waves still pack check-in and outbound passport control. Online check-in plus bag drop where offered beats curb heroics. Transfer passengers stay airside and only re-clear transfer security — do not exit to landside unless you need immigration.

Terminal

One terminal, two pier directions — Gate 15 is the lounge landmark

Single 2021 terminal; use Gate 15 / Gate 16 landmarks for lounges and the transit hotel.

After security/passport control the departures hall splits toward eastern and western gate piers. Pearl Lounge Departures is upstairs near Gate 15 (escalator/lift); Falcon Gold is the opposite-side Gulf Air product. Prayer rooms near Gates 14 and 19; smoking rooms between 14–15 and 18–19; sensory room opposite Gate 16 by the Airport Hotel. Screenshot your boarding pass before the captive portal eats your attention.

Food

Airside food court first — lounge only if access is real

Eat airside retail if you lack Falcon Gold or DragonPass; Pearl walk-up is ~BHD 25/3h when you need a seat.

Airside cafés and quick-service cover the basics after security. Do not assume Priority Pass will open a door here — Falcon Gold is Gulf Air–ticketed (or paid Gulf Air economy walk-up), and Pearl is DragonPass / Visa Airport Companion / paid walk-up (~BHD 25 / 3h on current traveler tariffs). Bahrain Airport Hotel airside near Gate 15 is the better long layover sleep/shower play than camping in a lounge past the 3-hour stay caps.

Status

Metered taxi or A2 bus — skip the lobby touts

Official meter taxi (BHD 2+2) or Bahrain Bus A2; rideshare at Gate 1 curb only.

Follow signs from baggage reclaim to the inner curb for Bahrain Taxi / Arabian Taxi (meter: BHD 2 start + BHD 2 airport pickup). Careem/Uber pickup is signed at Arrivals next to Gate 1 — not the same as the taxi inner curb. Cheapest honest city ride is Bahrain Bus from exit 4 / zone 4A (A2 is the published fastest Manama routing; cash single BHD 0.300). Complaints go to MTT enforcement or Tawasul — not the first person with a laminated rate card in the hall.

Honest verdict

Who this airport works for

Best for

Gulf Air connections and Falcon Gold access
Short Manama city hops by taxi or Bahrain Bus
DragonPass / paid Pearl lounge when not on Gulf Air
Straightforward single-terminal transfers

Watch out for

Falcon Gold requires a Gulf Air-operated flight
Pearl Arrivals is not the Priority Pass product
No metro/rail — taxis and Bahrain Bus only
Summer heat on the curb and Car Park D shuttle waits

Updated Sep 17, 2026

Bahrain International Airport (IATA BAH / ICAO OBBI) sits on Muharraq Island about 3–4 NM northeast of central Manama. Operator is Bahrain Airport Company (BAC). Official site: bahrainairport.bh.
BAC reported a record 9.74 million passengers in 2025 (+4.2% vs 9.35 million in 2024), with 97,740 aircraft movements and 405,217 tonnes of cargo (+3.2%). Gulf Air is the home carrier; the field is also a major freighter node (DHL / SNAS among others).
One passenger terminal: the New Passenger Terminal opened 28 January 2021 (~210,000 m²; design capacity often cited around 14 million passengers/year) and handles all commercial passenger flights. Parallel runways 12L/30R ~3,964 × 60 m and 12R/30L ~2,530 × 45 m; published elevation ~8 ft / 2.4 m (Bahrain AIP AD-2.OBBI).
Compact by Gulf-hub standards — no multi-terminal bus transfers. Airside connections stay in one building after transfer security. Free Wi-Fi SSID “Bahrain Airport” (airport publishes up to 6 hours free, no registration).
Lounges: Gulf Air Falcon Gold Lounge (airline / Falconflyer; economy purchase on Gulf Air-operated flights) and The Pearl Lounge on Departures near Gate 15. Live Priority Pass lists Pearl Departures 00:00–23:59, entry from 3 hours before departure, 3-hour max stay. DragonPass / walk-up (~BHD 25 for 3 hours, confirm live) remain alternate paths. Smaller Pearl Arrivals lounge is landside of arrivals formalities and is not the PP product.
City access is road-only (no metro/rail). Official metered taxis (Bahrain Taxi / Arabian Taxi) from the inner arrivals curb: BHD 2 flag + BHD 2 airport pickup surcharge. Bahrain Bus A1/A2/10/11 from arrivals exit 4 / zone 4A; single ticket BHD 0.300. Careem/Uber meeting point at Arrivals curbside by Gate 1.
