quickFacts:
  - >-
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk International Airport named after A. P. Chekhov (IATA UUS
/ ICAO UHSS), also known as Khomutovo, is the main airport of Sakhalin
Island and Sakhalin Oblast. It sits in the Khomutovo district on the
southern edge of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, about 10 km from the centre. Local time
    is UTC+11.
  - >-
Traffic: about 1.46 million passengers in 2025 at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk itself,
of whom 22,028 flew internationally (+22% on 2024). The airport company's
total of 1,544,782 also counts its branch airports at Okha, Nogliki and
    Shakhtyorsk.
  - >-
All flights use one terminal of about 47,000 m², opened on 7 August 2023,
with 11 gates and 6 jet bridges. Since 29 September 2026 international
    flights have used it too, after a new border checkpoint opened inside;
before that they ran from the old terminal building.
  - >-
International flights are run by Aurora, the airline based here. In winter
2026/27 it flies to Beijing Daxing twice a week from 26 October and to
Shanghai once a week from 1 November. A Harbin route ran in the summer
    season until 20 October.
  - >-
Domestic flights: Aeroflot and Rossiya fly to Moscow Sheremetyevo; S7
Airlines and IrAero fly to Siberian and Far Eastern cities; Aurora flies to
Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and to the Kuril
Islands, with regional carrier Taiga flying smaller island routes. None of
these airlines belongs to a global airline alliance.
  - >-
The airfield is shared with state aviation (FSB, Emergencies Ministry and
Rosgvardia aircraft are based here), but the passenger terminal is purely
civil. It has one runway, about 3,400 m long.

# Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport (Khomutovo) (UUS)
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia · Europe
Sakhalin's main airport has one of the newest and largest terminals in the Russian Far East, with two business lounges, a VIP lounge, free Wi-Fi and buses into a city only 10 km away. Almost all flights are domestic; since 29 September 2026 Aurora's Beijing and Shanghai flights also use the new terminal. Foreign visitors need a visa and Russian payment cards.
