quickFacts:
  - >-
Juba International Airport (IATA JUB / ICAO HJJJ) is South Sudan's main
international gateway, a few kilometres north-east of central Juba. Local
time is UTC+2 (Central Africa Time).
  - >-
Traffic: no airport-level passenger figure is published. Civil Aviation
Authority data cited by Ecofin show South Sudan handled about 2 million
passengers and 15,000 aircraft movements in 2025, most of them at Juba. The
airport is also the country's main base for humanitarian and diplomatic
    flights.
  - >-
Terminal 3, a new international terminal for arrivals and departures, was
inaugurated by President Salva Kiir on 16 July 2026. It replaced the two
cramped older terminals for international flights.
  - >-
    One runway (13/31, 3,100 m, asphalt), lengthened from 2,400 m during the
China-backed 2018–21 renovation. The Civil Aviation Authority lists the
airport as open 24 hours, and night flights have been possible since
    September 2025.
  - >-
Scheduled international flights in November 2026: Ethiopian Airlines to
Addis Ababa (the busiest route), Uganda Airlines to Entebbe, Kenya Airways
to Nairobi, EgyptAir to Cairo, and the Sudanese carriers Badr Airlines and
    Tarco Aviation to Port Sudan.
  - >-
Alliances: Ethiopian and EgyptAir are Star Alliance members, and Kenya
Airways is in SkyTeam. Turkish Airlines' Istanbul flights and flydubai's
    Dubai flights are suspended.
bentoTips:
  - label: Timing
title: Sort your visa and yellow fever card before you fly
    detail: >-
There is no visa on arrival in Juba. Apply for the e-visa online (download
the approval and bring it) or through a South Sudanese embassy. A yellow
fever vaccination certificate is required and is checked on entry. The UK
and German foreign offices report that foreigners have been held at the
airport over vaccination, visa and work-permit papers, so carry originals
      and copies.
summary: No visa on arrival; yellow fever certificate is checked on entry.

title: International flights use the new Terminal 3
    detail: >-
Terminal 3 opened on 16 July 2026 and handles international arrivals and
departures. It replaced two small, overcrowded older terminals for
international traffic. Check with your airline which building to go to,
especially for domestic, charter or humanitarian flights.
summary: Terminal 3 (opened July 2026) is the international terminal.

  - label: Food
title: Bring cash in clean US dollars
    detail: >-
Cash is king in Juba. The UK FCDO advises bringing clean,
large-denomination US dollar notes printed in 2017 or later, and Germany's
Foreign Office says most foreign bank cards are not accepted. ATMs are
scarce. We could not confirm food outlets or opening hours in Terminal 3,
so carry water and a snack.
summary: Carry clean post-2017 US dollar notes; cards rarely work.
    category: food
  - label: Status
title: 'Lounges exist, but access rules aren''t published'
    detail: >-
Terminal 3 opened with VIP and business lounges, according to the
inauguration coverage. Neither the airport nor the airlines publish access
rules, opening hours or walk-in prices. Older listings name a paid 'Triple
A' lounge in the old terminal, but we could not confirm it is still open.
Ask your airline at check-in whether business-class or elite passengers
      get lounge access.
summary: Terminal 3 has VIP and business lounges; access details unpublished.

# Juba International Airport (JUB)
Juba, South Sudan · Africa
Juba is South Sudan's gateway, with flights to Addis Ababa, Entebbe, Nairobi, Cairo and Port Sudan and a busy flow of UN and humanitarian aircraft. The new Terminal 3, opened in July 2026, finally gives international passengers a modern building. Expect strict document checks (visa in advance, yellow fever certificate), cash-only habits and few confirmed facilities. The UK and Germany advise against all travel to South Sudan.
